Don't stay here
The room was nice and big
It was absolutely freezing We had to wait in the rain in a queue for someone to come from the house across the road to let us into the hotel - saying sorry my mum isnt here to let you in We complained about how cold it was (via mobile phone as nobody was on site) to be told to help ourselves to a heater from the lounge- this broke down after 10 minutes I took another heater from the lobby but the room was still baltic I had asked for a ground floor room to be given one up a flight of stairs - my partner has mobility issues and can't climb stairs (although this was promptly sortes out) The fridge in the room was mouldy The paintwork had hairs in it The pathway to the hotel was badly lit and slippy with moss The reception area has a wooden shelf that is loose and nearly falls off if you lean on it But mostly its absolutely totally freezing cold We left to go to another hotel and shaftesbury apologised and said we would get a refund but then they renegaded on that promise when Booking.com contacted them Dont stay here - there are lots of much much cheaper and better hotels in Dundee

There was plenty of free on street parking. The bed was comfy and the linen and towels were clean. Nice to have a bottle of water and some snacks in the room. There were plenty options at breakfast and the cooked food was good. The man who served us breakfast was very pleasant and attentive.
The photos on the website must have been taken a long time ago, the hotel feels tired and old. There was cold air blowing in through the bathroom window, we put a coat at it but this didn’t really help. The bathroom was very cold even with the small radiator on, too cold to have a shower. We didn’t have any issues with the hot water, it just took a long time to heat up. The bedroom was large and was quite cold even with central heating and a portable heater. The curtains were thin (no lining) and faded, the room would have been too light for us if we had stayed in summer. There are no staff at the hotel apart from check in and breakfast. It has been a beautiful hotel in its day but now it just feels unloved and old. The welcome on arrival could have been better ! .

Cheap, clean, basic
Booked a single room but as it was quiet they gave me a double room. Room was spotless. Good fried breakfast.
Temperature in room wasn't very warm even with the heating on. Perhaps its because its an old building. Apart from at breakfast there are no staff around.
