Nagomi-Ryokan Yuu

The entrance was quaint and fun as our unit was recessed behind the street front unit. The shower was nice. The check-in/check-out book was helpful as was the in-unit guide book when it wasn’t outdated.

The hand washing sink was down a very steep flight of stairs (similar to a fixed ladder) from the toilet. The A/C started squeaking so loudly our second night that it woke us up and we had to turn it off to be able to sleep. Fortunately we could open the window. They kindly tried to fix it the next day. Part of the solution was to turn the fan down. It still made the noise occasionally, but it was not as loud. This was okay and we were mostly able to sleep thru it. Also, the bottom sheets on the shikibuton mattresses were not fitted sheets, so they would come off by the morning. This would be an easy fix. It clearly laid out in advance how much you would be charged if you were late for the 10 am check-out as well as how much they would charge for luggage storage to keep a carry-on sized bag or any luggage even until the afternoon ¥1,500 per piece. These aspects made it seem like they were more interested in deterring these things or in making money than in customer service. Perhaps it’s just that space is at a premium, but even at Kyoto station, we were able to find a large coin locker that held all three of our carry-on bags and one of our backpacks for only ¥700. Unfortunately, this was a 20 minute walk in the opposite direction from where we were heading, but it seemed better than paying ¥6000 (nearly $40) for the same service.

Very very nice place. Shared toilet and bathrooms were super clean

Very thin walls and very close rooms.. noisy neighbours means really difficult stay.

the amount of effort is insane - staff are dedicated to making sure your stay is perfect

keypad and code system is a little risky - outside door was always open already when I approached, and the codes are not so hard to guess. if I wanted to get into other rooms I'd be able to easy. other than that absolutely incredible

We liked the location of the hotel, close to public transportation.

We were not informed that the ceiling in one of the rooms slopes down so that one cannot stand upright in the room, except near the entry door.
