It was clean and beautifully presented.
Our shower pressure was very low and extremely hot.

Beautiful property. We stayed in the Roost, two bedrooms, sleeps 4. Booking.com doesn’t make it clear which of the properties in the farm you are booking, but you can figure it out by checking against the photos on the farm website. Peaceful and relaxing place, 2 hours drive from London. Great food and drinks in the main barn restaurant including fantastic mocktails and the most flavoursome risotto I’ve ever had, really friendly service. Nice spa and hot tub facilities. Lovely massage treatments, including for pregnancy - we stayed as a group of friends for a babymoon weekend. Would recommend - we definitely plan to go back.
Time in the spa and hot tub has to be pre booked and slots are 30 mins - wish we could have had longer and more flexibility on timings, but the upside is that your time in the spa and hot tub is private to your group and not shared with other guests. They were about to extend the size of the spa when we were there, which may increase capacity. Would be great if they could also build a pool!

The location was beautiful, i like how clean and private it feels.
Nothing comes to mind.

The accommodation is lovely and the breakfast was delicious
The heating wasn’t working in a first accommodation so was moved but took a while to sort out

Enormous, modern barn-conversion-type "houses" rather than just a room. Food quality excellent. Real fruit juice at breakfast - a rarity!
Sadly, we did not have time to exploit the spa - but it looked excellent (although we wished it had been a tad cheaper). The rooms are very modern - but could have done with a mini-intro to all the buttons/switches.

Quiet peaceful location, clean comfortable accommodation. Nicely decorated Shepards hut. Nice breakfast and food in the restaurant
Lack of storage for clothing etc in shes hut. Under bed storage blocked by wall mounted heater.
No availability at spa during our stay depite trying to book ahead when we booked the stay.

A really lovely stay. All staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating.
The Shepards Hut was done to a great standard and perfect for a few nights away. The bed was very comfy. Very private and no risk of being overlooked by any neighbours.
The included continental breakfast was good quality. Despite the coffee machine breaking on the first day they took orders and made drinks at the bar.
The food for lunch and dinner, whilst expensive was worth it with generous portions and clearly very good quality. A service charge was added but I was more than happy to pay due to the friendly service we received.
Spa facilities whilst fairly limited were nice to make use of.
Overall a lovely environment to relax in.
A few areas of improvement would be lovely to see.
The spa facilities were very disorganised unfortunately as I believe the spa receptionist was unavailable. Led to confusion as we sat waiting to be shown into our pre booked times in spa/hot tub but nobody was available to show us how to use them/where to go.
Only one changing room for spa/treatment facilities so our valuables ended up locked in a changing room whilst someone got changed for their spa treatment. Not ideal.
Bikes were very poorly maintained, low tyres and generally unloved. Whilst nice to use they weren’t practical for anything over 10-15 minutes.
I was unable to start the fire as very limited kindling and no fire lighters etc so as soon as it started going, it died out. Fortunately some good electric heating instead.
Could do with a hook or two on the bathroom wall for towels etc.
Overall these negative points are greatly overshadowed by the positives, hence my 9/10 review.

Lovely decor and some nice touches in the rooms. Good spa treatments
The booking system for hot tub only 30’mins bikes aren’t for roads but the route is roads

Venue very nice, accommodation excellent. Staff were very friendly and helpful, just not enough of them in the spa. Breakfast was very nice, pastries were fresh etc. Just a bit slow to refill the food and plates. We had to keep asking for things.
There was no-one to greet us at the spa so we ended up asking the restaurant manager for robes then just finding our way around the facilities. And it was sightly awkward sitting in the spa reception in robes next to people eating lunch.
Would be better if they could move the spa reception into the spa area. There was also weird miscommunication via booking.com and the venue. I enquired about extras for our arrival as it was my partners birthday but didn't confirm. There was a bottle on arrival so I presumed it was complimetary. But they charged us £35 on check-out. Plus a £25 for a dog. Which I didn't book or take.

Our stay at The Sett, Retreat East was nothing short of perfect. The property is beautifully designed a seamless blend of rustic charm and modern luxury with every detail carefully thought out for ultimate comfort. We loved the peaceful atmosphere, the stunning countryside surroundings, and the sense of calm that comes from being so close to nature. From the cozy interiors to the exceptional service, everything about The Sett made our stay feel special, relaxing, and truly unforgettable.
There honestly wasn’t anything we didn’t like about the property. Every detail at The Sett, Retreat East exceeded our expectations from the stunning interiors to the peaceful surroundings and exceptional service. It’s rare to find a place where everything feels so thoughtfully designed and perfectly executed, but this stay truly had no faults. We left feeling completely relaxed and already can’t wait to return.

A very quiet location, so able to relax
There were a few things missing. There are no hooks in the property to hang anything, especially in the bedroom and no free standing cupboards either.

Great location. Beautiful countryside. Lovely barns. Friendly Staff. Lou on reception, very helpful.
The kitchen needed an oven tray. Slight odour issue in The Granary Barn, guessing drain issue. Lou from reception gave us a candle to mask it.

The huts, outside bath, veranda
The sauna was cold, the food was mediocre

Beautiful shepherds hut, comfortable with everything you need. The food was excellent and it’s a lovely setting.
Instant coffee rather than a cafetière in the hut. Not much to do there, the sauna steam was ok but only half an hour given.

The room was good inside.
The spa is woeful, the staff are not well trained, the food is overpriced, the property is poorly laid out.

A tranquil and peaceful place in a beautiful setting. Lovely cabin with beautiful interior design, amenities including a fully kitted out kitchen, sofa/lounging area, very comfy large bed and TV. Staff were pleasant. An intimate, calming, relaxing place to escape to for the weekend.
When we arrived we were excited to explore with the retreat’s free bicycles. We’d booked these in advance. However there were a few to choose from and all apart from one were not usable- either a broken chain, jammed brakes, or flat tyre. Rusty pedals, no bottle holders. Just not maintained at all. If you are looking forward to a country cycle take your own bikes.
The ‘spa’ is disappointing. It is essentially a large bathroom/wet room. You have to book a 30 minute slot in advance to use it. Unfortunately no robes available for us.
Upon entering the ‘spa’ there is a laundry basket full of used towels next to a mop propped up against the wall. A large yellow plastic ‘wet floor sign’ in the centre of the room, and a bench with a couple of hooks on the wall. You feel like you’re in a hotel laundry room. Two showers on the wall one of which had a handle missing so unable to turn on, and there was another little shower behind a wall in the corner. Two doors off the wet room; one leading to a small sauna and another the steam room. Both were clean and well maintained. That was the whole spa. Outside the spa room there was a tankard of water but no cups. I had to open the spa door (opening to the main room of the hotel where everyone was having their lunch) and stand there like a lemon in my bikini and (likely) mascara dripping down my face waiting for someone to see I was there and needed help. I asked a staff member for some cups for the water and a robe. The cups were delivered.
There is a hot tub outside the spa under a little shelter next to the car park. Again you need to book your 30 minute slot in advance to use this. We’d booked ours days in advance yet when we arrived for our session we had to find staff who then came to turn the hot tub on and it needed to warm up. It wasn’t clean either.
Essentially, this retreat is a lovely place to stay- the main room, food, patio area and huts are lovely but do not go for the ‘spa’ facilities, you’ll be disappointed.

We loved our little barn and the fact everywhere was dog friendly, the staff were so lovely and helpful, will definitely be returning.
The only negative was the bed was a bit too firm.

I didn't like thatsome of the bedroom windows were broken/nailed shut or wouldn't open (farmhouse). Fridge didn't shut properly either as freezer needed defrosting so wasn't cold.

- large lodge
- nice large barn as the resturant
- relaxing atmosphere
- two lovely staff members - guy at reception and lady working the spa
- staff were slow, untrained and unprofessional
- lots of flies around the continental breakfast, could do with investing in some covers for the fruit, cheese, yogurt etc. really put us off eating there!
- staff didn’t wait on outdoor tables, had to order at bar but service charge still added. When they brought out the new drinks they never cleared the old glasses away.
- super understaffed for dinner service on a Friday night, one waitress to about 10 large tables
- breakfast staff super slow and forgot our coffee order
- you had to book time slots for the “spa” which was 1 hot tub shared and the waiting area was in the Resturant
- food was expensive and a bit underwhelming
- was brought a dirty cafeteria at breakfast full of dust
- few upgrades needed in the barn. The bathroom is a wet room which meant the water never drained and the entire floor was soaking the entire 3 day stay which was uncomfortable
- few cobwebs and spiders on windows
- mould in bathroom from water damage needs to be replaced on woodwork by the door
We stayed in The Warren

Unique accommodation. Great food, relaxing, spotless and comfortable.
Loved everything. Just a little note, maybe some more sun loungers to use.

Breakfast choice ok. Shepherds hut was tiny and expensive for what it was. Location was great and great setting
How the hut moved when you walked inside it. Shower was either hot or cold. Outside furniture was very uncomfortable.

We loved our stay! Our barn was comfortable, clean
and stylish. The food at the restaurant in the evening was great and we had a good continental breakfast included. There are lovely walks straight from the retreat and nice extras, like wellies to use and pick and mix at reception. The staff particularly were lovely and made our stay feel special.
The spa facilities aren’t extensive - there isn’t a pool and you need to book set time slots before you arrive. We got quite a lot of emails about checking in/booking the spa and bikes online before we arrived and I got an email about checking out online in the evening of our stay which, as we were only staying one night, I didn’t appreciate as it felt as if the admin was being put on the guests. Otherwise great stay!

Property was not as advertised and nothing was good.
What was advertised was a charming cabin with a beam ceiling and fireplace. What we got was a tiny room the was not acceptable for two people to share. The only solution was to get another tiny house paying over $500 for our 1 night!

Tidy, clean, what we expected
Not the property but they need music on everywhere (in spa and restaurant) to create more of an atmosphere. Needs stronger spa facilities if labelled a ‘wellness retreat’. This place has so much potential but is missing something

The view from our Shepherds hut
The barn where you eat is beautiful
The ridiculously hot water that scolded my wife from the kitchen tap. No one checked on us the following morning either even though they were aware of the injury caused..... The bed was also facing the wrong way so your feet were touching the wall.
Breakfast. Poached eggs over done and over priced. The continental breakfast which was included was very good. Not a terrible stay but a bit disappointed

We love it here and have been twice before previously staying in the lovely barns. However, this time we decided to try an impromptu stay in a shepherds hut.
We love the great barn for a nice dining atmosphere, however the food is not as good as it was when there was a very creative chef, Adam I think.
The shepherd hut is tiny, fine for a night with the lack of storage. Go for a barn or one of the farm buildings if your budget allows.

Great Shepherds Hut, cozy, fun and super location
Slightly disappointed that the booking included breakfast but you had to pay extra for the cooked breakfast!

Absolutely loved the Hideaway. Myself and partner needed some time together after a couple of months with hospital visits for our poorly son. And honestly the name it's self was exactly what we wanted and needed!! Peace and tranquility
Only thing I'd like to have had was comfy sofa type chairs on the balcony to cosy up on while watching the sun set. That's my only little fault
