"The location was excellent and I spent quite a bit of time walking in the nearby park. The coffee was very good in the breakfast area and lobby. That's important. I also loved that the windows open..."

It was across from a large riverfront park so not a lot of buildings or traffic noise around. I imagine that & the 24-hr swimming pool & hottub plus free breakfast (self-serve) would appeal to families. It is walking distance (literally a block or two along the river path) to a mcmenamins restaurant (where your room key will get a free small order of Cajun-spice tater tots). There’s also a few other restaurants and bars nearby. On the whole it offers a decent value — beds were comfortable, AC works well, staff is very friendly and eager to help meet whatever needs you present to them. It’s not as upscale as the Hilton-Marriott-Hyatt range, but it’s also less pretentious & snooty, which makes it feel welcoming & comfortable, a B place you can wear shorts, tshirt & sandals to breakfast. Tho they don’t have a restaurant onsite for other meals, there are plenty in Eugene to choose from, in a wide price range. The La Quinta has a “convenience store” of the kind of “grab & go” lunch food you might find in an Automat, & the prices are very reasonable, so if you spent everything just to afford the room, you don’t have to go broke buying food OR starve. There are also grocery stores nearby or you can get delivery; microwave and big-size mini-fridge in room is capacious enough to self-cater from the frozen food section for cheap, if you have to. I didn’t use the laundry machines but they’re there.
The first room they put me in had a broken curtain pull, but they very graciously moved me to one I could close the curtains to keep out heat & solar rays (I have a condition that limits how much direct sunlight I can tolerate) The breakfast room was uncomfortably hot for me, between the 2 Belgian waffle irons that were mostly propped open (when not cooking) which radiated a LOT of heat into the room, and being across the hall from the hottub/pool room. Obviously the water features aren’t movable, but I wonder if they could relocate the breakfast room. Otherwise I wanted to just take my plate to my room to eat — that’s another option as long as people bring the dishes back. The building is older, there are a few hairline cracks in tile here & there or tiny makeup stains on carpet. Those things happen when families with kids (or college students) stay at a place a lot. It doesn’t affect the comfort or functionality of the facilities. It was never the most elegant place in town, but the important things — cleanliness, friendliness, accommodating attitudes & unpretentious fellow guests — made it pleasant & comfortable, the price was better than those others I mentioned, I slept well, & I felt confident I wouldn’t end up with bugs from the bedding. I saw a couple in their twenties(?) who were obviously having one of their first independent adult hotel bc stays, and they looked like they were having a great time without breaking the bank.

The size of the room was comfortable. We needed the refrigerator and microwave and were glad to have them. The location was good for our needs. The room we were in was good for us and our two dogs. The pool and availability were very nice. They had luggage carts available every time we needed one.
The parking was very tight for our Suburban. Perhaps the parking lot could have been laid our better. I guess it's near downtown so space is tight. The bathroom didn't smell clean. The fan in the bathroom was on a sensor and went off when I was in the shower and multiple times as I was dressing and drying my hair. It was odd and not beneficial to keeping the room dry. The outlet that I used for my CPAP was bumped during the night when a pillow was dropped from the bed and disconnected. The refrigerator in the room had a puddle of water in it from the freezer compartment. I was not confident in it's cooling capabilities. The breakfast didn't have may options for my diet ie.. Gluten free, dairy free, vegan. A little surprising in a town like Eugene, Oregon

Close proximity to my business needs.
The air flow in the room was low. Needs more variety of breakfast choices.

The breakfast was nice
The photographs were creatively taken to look nicer than the location was. The hotel backs up to a car lot and a cyclone fenced park with many homeless. The rooms were very basic and the bedding was bare bones.
