I took a chance on booking this low-budget solo getaway after reading some bad reviews and was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and spaciousness of the queen room. There was an initial chlorine bleach smell, but that wore off pretty quickly and the very helpful manager and staff are looking into improving that. The TV is a good size and has lots of channels, and there's a modern fridge and microwave as well as a drip coffee machine. The bed was clean and comfortable and the shower was spotless with good hot water. The highway traffic is busy but with the front door and window closed, the rear bathroom window lets in fresh air without the traffic sounds and I slept really well. It's a pleasant walk down to the harbor waterfront area and Starbucks is a few minutes across the bridge while the town and beach are an easy walk beyond. I felt very safe and at ease on this lowcost seaside getaway in beautiful Oceanside and would return in a heartbeat.

Reviews I read said the units were renovated and the staff were friendly. We did not find that to be the case. The beds were comfortable, but the door to the second room would not close easily and there was no AC to that room, the TV stand looked like a dog had chewed the wood, the shower leaked and the toilet never completely flushed. We had trouble getting into our room, so I went back down to the front desk. He said they were programmed and he would go up to show us how they worked. Note, we were three adults who have stayed in hotels frequently, so we knew how to operate the room. He rushed out of the office, and I had to run to keep up with him. He explained to us like we were first time users how to use the key card and open the door. Every time we tried it, it took several tries and it was difficult to get the door open. The next day we notified the front desk that the toilet was not flushing correctly. We were told that the maintenance man would be in soon and he would look at it. We took our dogs out for about 2.5 hours to get some exercise. When we returned, we had a note from management that we should not put wads of paper in the toilet, to use a small amount. We did not put wads in the toilet, it never fully emptied. Thankfully, we did not have to go #2 as it would not have flushed. We ended up putting the toilet paper in the trash can and hoped for the best that the toilet would empty enough to get the pee out. It was very frustrating and was the major reason we chose to head back home that night instead of the next morning despite having already paid for the second night.

Had some rough characters in the room next to me that kept me up late. Room was clean and workers were nice. Good location. But being one of the cheapest options, you kind of get what you pay for.
