Hogmanay Trip

The bothy is exceptionally well equipped and very comfortable, especially for a winter stay. The bedroom was cosy with earplugs, an extra blanket, and plenty of storage including a wardrobe, drawers and small vanity table. The spare room is not something that’s advertised, but it made a big difference to the stay. It worked perfectly as a dressing area and for storing luggage so the main living space stayed clutter-free. It’s thoughtfully set up with a chair, luggage rack, full-length mirror, ironing board, hoover, a large umbrella, and a charming record player. The living room was warm and inviting, with a welcome information pack, sewing kit, first aid kit, binoculars, a basket of books and games, two cosy blankets, sofa trays, and a couple of caramel waffles on arrival - a really nice touch. The kitchen was very well stocked with an air fryer, hob, toaster, microwave, good-sized fridge and freezer. Basics like oil, salt, pepper, tea, coffee and sugar were provided, along with cling film, cleaning products, and a shoe tray for wet boots. The small breakfast bar seating area overlooking the sea was lovely, and the space felt very cosy once the curtains were drawn. The bathroom had an excellent shower and a heated towel rail, with shampoo, conditioner and body wash provided. Outside, the views are outstanding and the cabin felt peaceful despite being close to the road. The location is excellent: close to Broadford shops, petrol station and the bridge, and ideal as a base for exploring Skye. The outside space was well lit with solar lights, a porch light and an automatic driveway light, making parking easy at night. In the summer i imagine the picnic bench, grass chairs and rocking chair on the deck would be great to make use of. Contactless check-in via key box was stress-free. Ann was very helpful and happy to assist, and Kirsty provided good check-in information and kindly arranged a late checkout, which was a real bonus.

The oven was out of use during our stay, although the air fryer and hob covered everything we needed. We noticed a few minor maintenance issues: the toilet roll holder was broken, there was a small amount of water coming from the towel rail, and a small crack in the shower wall. One corner lamp in the living room also didn’t have a plug socket to use. Because the cabin is close to the main road, there is some road noise at times, which may bother lighter sleepers. That said, during winter this was also a positive in terms of accessibility and convenience. Outside, two steps on the deck could benefit from anti-slip decking tape in frosty conditions, and a small grit box would be helpful in winter for the path. The front door felt a little drafty until the curtains were drawn, though it was cosy once closed.

The view is great but the location is too close to the main road which is noisy with all the passing traffic and there isn’t any privacy from the road and neighbours.
