Due to the potential difficulty in understanding various accents over the phone, I recommend using WhatsApp to contact the host via the platform first. The host will promptly send a check-in SOP video. I stayed for four nights, and the host provided welcome drinks and Nespresso coffee capsules. It takes just over 20 minutes to walk from the house to Edinburgh Castle. There is a Lidl supermarket right at the entrance of the alley. One evening, my kids joined a spontaneous basketball game in the park behind Lidl and played for two hours — they had a great time. Since the house is located right at the edge of the S4 controlled parking zone, I suggest looking for free parking around the intersection of Russel Road and Sauchiebank Road, which is outside the restricted area and only a 10-minute walk from the property. The condition of the house is as shown in the pictures; I think it’s quite acceptable. I'm very grateful for this place during my time in Edinburgh.
Initially, communication with the host over the phone was a bit difficult, and I was genuinely worried that the booking might be canceled. However, once we switched to WhatsApp, everything went smoothly. Also, the seagulls are very loud in the early morning — you’ll definitely wake up without needing an alarm clock.

Space is good. Location is very convenient, although not exactly a pretty neighbourhood.
Check-out time (9am) is earlier than usual (10 or 11am).
Some tiles are cracked.

If I had read the other reviews I would not have booked, but it turns out the place and the host are just fine. There was a problem with the water heater and he fixed it right away. He was always polite and professional.
The beds are not great; they could use replacement. Otherwise everything was great.
