'Il Loggiato' - Beautiful Apartment In The Historical Center Of Cortona

My husband and I stayed here for 5 days. The apartment is nicely decorated, clean and well maintained. The location could not be better, right in the heart of Cortona. Living room windows overlook the via Nazionale, the main street and is convenient to all the shops, restaurants. Susanna and her family were very courteous and welcoming. The stairs could be a problem for some as there are 27 steep, stone steps to climb in order to reach the apartment which is on the third floor. Also, internet reception was intermittent with weak signal. However, if these issues are not important, I would recommend staying here.

This was our first trip to Italy and our first stop was Cortona for my best friends wedding. Susanna and her daughter were very accommodating and patient as we had several travel delays. We arrived by train around 6 p.m. and could not get a taxi so Susanna's daughter came down to the train station to pick us up. They made sure we knew everything about the apartment and were comfortable. The apartment had plenty of space for my husband and I and the location was perfect. We really enjoyed the coffee and pastries from the bar on the main street just below the apartment. Cortona is beautiful and everything was in walking distance. Of all the apartments we stayed at, the shower was by far the best with ample water pressure and hot water. The stairs were fine for us, but it could be challenging for others. Small luggage is definitely recommended. The apartment was well equipped with the exception of a hair dryer (as listed). I would highly recommend this apartment if you are lucky enough to visit the town of Cortona!

From the welcome cake to the morning treats left in the apartment, Susanna and her family are most attentive to the needs of their guests, including having laundry done if needed. The apartment is quaint and truly Tuscan with stone walls and beautiful beamed ceilings, complete with some beautiful antiques and art work. The salon windows (living room) open onto Via Nazionale (the only "flat" street since everything thing is above or below via the many inclines and hills) while the bedroom windows overlook the idyllic medieval street just above Piazza Repubblica and Ristorante, Il Loggiato. This is my second trip to Cortona (my fifth to Italy), whereas I was here to study Italian at Polymnia for two weeks; I would only recommend that if you are not into crowds and festivals and tremendous heat, that you avoid July. June is delightful and of course after August. However, there are two air conditioners which cool the apartment and keep it at a very comfortable temperature, depending upon how cool or warm you may like. Do not pack heavily since the apartment is on the third floor and the stone steps are rather steep in parts before you get to the flat. Cortona is so compact that all the necessities are available at the numerous shops and stores, and an abundance of the many restaurants, enotecas and cafes. Sightseeing is plentiful from hikes into the hillsides, walking the walls of the city and viewing its many gates, visiting the numerous churches including the basilica, the Etruscan and Diocesan Museums, and seeing Bramasole and beyond into the many villages and other hill towns towns--but a car is truly needed if you may want to explore this part of Tuscany and Umbria which is only a few miles away. Cortona truly is a magical, alluring and captivating town to reside in and discover!

We had a wonderful vacation in Cortona and stayed at an absolutely beautiful, clean, and well maintained flat! The owners could not have been more helpful. They met us and took us to the flat and made sure we knew how everything worked. This is a must stay place for anyone traveling to beautiful Cortona, Italt!
