The hotel was quiet and peaceful in the mountain.

This was great for getting away from busy Kyoto. Small resort, six traditional Japanese rooms, very quiet and relaxing. In the morning, the baths are reserved for resort guests until 10:00 AM. It is also close to wonderful shrines/temples and hiking in a beautiful maple/cedar forests without the Kyoto crowds. The staff was wonderful and there was an English speaker to help with any problems we had with information about the resort and surrounding area.

The restaurant is very good, but as vegan/vegetarian eaters the options were limited.

They have a shuttle bus to the mountain that runs every day. The staff was amazing with accommodating my diet and everything I needed, helping make my bed, which was also a mat on the floor more comfortable for my back. Let me wear my shoes on the steps because they were hurting my feet barefoot because they have a metal strip on them. Best toilet in the world. Lid comes up and light comes on when you walk in the bathroom.

It was great that the baths were right there. Honestly, there was so much black mold on the walls of the indoor bath, in a country that is inspired by cleanliness and rules, that I didn’t want to be in the room. It was cleaned somewhat down lower but I could touch some of it and it came off on my finger, so it would not be hard to get the upper tiles clean. Tiles are cracked which means the mold is probably in the wall. I have mold allergies so didn’t stay in there long.

The onsite onsen was good but being a public bath, it got very busy with day trippers. Location is good for hiking and visiting nearby temples.

The accommodation was dated, the walls were thin & you can hear people next to you. The entrance wasn’t particularly nice, you walk straight into what feels like a souvenir shop. The communication re. The meals before arrival was confusing. Please note there is only one restaurant on site. They will try and sell you the set meal, which was really expensive & too much food. There is an à la carte menu available at the same restaurant. Overall I didn’t think it was value for money. For the price paid I expected a lil more luxury.
