Ryokan Mugen (Adult Only)

The Ryokan itself was very clean, and full of character with comfort! We had a great sleep, and were made to feel so welcome with Tome and her family. The breakfast was delicious, and the opportunity to chat in the bar and learn more about the local area and Japan were a real trip highlight.

Amazing stay here! We enjoyed the lovely home cooked Japanese breakfast every morning and exploring the neighborhood with their bikes. Tome always had the best recommendations for us and her speakeasy in the back was such a delight! Tome and her husband are some of the nicest hosts we've ever met!

The entire experience was phenomenal. Tome is the owner and hostess. She made our stay feel very special and authentic in our first trip to Japan. Every day we had a homemade traditional breakfast and tips on beautiful places to visit, including some that we would have never known if it wasn’t for her help as a local.

We booked Ryokan Mugen for our Honeymoon and the host, Tome, was absolutely amazing. From the time we got to the ryokan off of the Shinkansen later at night, Tome went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. Our room was clean and spacious and gave us a real authentic Japanese experience with soft floors, comfortable beds, and (a very welcome) huge bathroom and tub to wash away our fatigue. The ryokan is down the street from major sightseeing including the Kyoto castle and is a few minutes drive (about a $5 taxi) from the Golden Pagoda. It is also incredibly easy to access via public transit, with a bus stop a block away that can take you directly to Kyoto Station. The real selling point of the Ryokan was Tome though, as a host, she was legendary. During our honeymoon, Tome showed us around her specially curated inn, opened up a secret bar in the back for us at night, and gave us recommendations of some of the best local food we tried throughout our time in Japan. She knows Kyoto like the back of her hand, and each morning, over her home-cooked traditional breakfast, would help us plan our routes for an optimal day. Tome and Ryokan Mugen are the type of people/place you remember forever, and it will be my #1 recommendation in visiting Japan. Thank you Tome!
