The property is in a nice traditional Japanese house, lovely quiet street; room was spacious and clean

From the time we arrived, there was a lot of confusion about the price. I informed the property that my friend was going to be joining me, and the hotel asked for additional payment. I did not mind the small charge, even through checking pricing on booking.com, there was no difference for 1 or 2 persons. By the time we arrived, this additional charge doubled, without any explanation why. The room was not cheap already, ended up costing £350 per night. My friend was very uncomfortable with the sleeping arrangement offered, so booked another room in the same property for second night we were staying there - for half the price! The property did offer a small refund for the extra person for second night, but then charged extra accommodation tax on top. I always had very positive experiences in Japan hotels before, always very welcoming and helpful staff - and this unfortunately was by far the worst experience, the communication was extremely confusing about the extra charges and why we were charged, particularly as my friend managed to book same property for half the price.
