Pocket Cottage came highly recommended while I was consulting on a design project in the area, and after staying here, I can absolutely see why. I booked it for a quick visit to York, needing somewhere convenient to get in and out of the city while enjoying a peaceful village setting. Every inch of Pocket Cottage is designed with intelligence and joy, making it feel surprisingly spacious and utterly unique. From hand-painted details to checkerboard floors and a hidden ‘laundry room’ cupboard, it’s clear the place was created by someone who truly understands hospitality — they just get it. The fire was already laid when I arrived, which made it feel instantly welcoming and cosy. The unexpected complimentary breakfast provisions — fresh crumpets, cereals, butter, proper teas, and real coffee — were such a generous touch. The cottage is also well-equipped: lovely toiletries, soft linens, even hair straighteners — which I didn’t need myself, but I can imagine many guests would appreciate. The garden, even in spring, was magical — fairy lights among cherry trees and a fire pit I’m already planning to enjoy next time with family. Parking right outside was incredibly convenient, and access to York was effortless. I also took a short walk to the local pub, just two minutes from the cottage, for a lovely meal. I’ve stayed in plenty of charming properties, and this one is right up there with the best of the Cotswolds and Cornwall — without the hefty price tag. If you appreciate beautiful, lived-in design that tells a story, you’ll be quietly delighted at every turn. The listing doesn’t do it justice. I left reluctantly, already planning to return with family and explore North Yorkshire using Pocket Cottage as the perfect base.
