The Tavern - Steakhouse and Lodge

The rooms were above the pub, so up a good bit of stairs which is a challenge with luggage. The room was quite small, difficult to open our luggage. It was clean and comfortable. One checks in at the bar which was both really interesting and a little rough, again with said luggage. The staff were very friendly and the pub a popular, busy place.

Power cut from when we arrived ,staff not helpful .below zero temperatures with no heating,unable to shower.no sleep due to freezing temperature,spoke to staff regarding the issues and there only concern was explaining that they had lost bookings for food .we had to leave the premises to go to other establishments to get something to eat and warm up.customer service none existent. Staff said on the second day they could give electric heater as we were leaving,whilst the electricity was on and off this wasn't going to help.as we were staying at the top of the property it was dark coming down the stairs which was dangerous.room was so small that bags had to be left in the bathroom so we didnt trip over them.not once did anyone explain what was happening or ask if we were ok.would never stay again.

Our room was not particularly clean, mold in the shower, dog hair all over the floor from previous guests, the heating didnt work, pastries in the room as a breakfast were out of date.

Room was tatty and not very clean. The common areas were dirty. The bed was uncomfortable. I was asked to pay on arrival having already paid via booking.com

It was extremely tired and not very clean. The carpet up the stairs is filthy, the decor very tired and dirty. The room and the bathroom was clean and so was the bed linen. The bed was really uncomfortable. I’ll fitting curtains at the window. The room was a bit smelly probably dog smell. My partner and I kept banging our head off the light shade . Not a good night sleep was had by either of us. I wish I hadn’t drank at the wedding we went to as I would have driven home. I have eaten at the pub before and the wedding party had eaten there twice the food is great but unfortunately the rooms are not. However if the carpet was taken up and a flooring laid which could be mopped and kept clean and redecorated and invest in more comfortable beds and pillows it could be a gem, in its present state I would not recommend anyone to stay which is really sad because the food is good.

The food in the tavern was lovely and staff friendly and welcoming. The bathroom was nice and clean with large bath. Towels and bedding were clean. Centrally located near shops/bars etc. Alnwick treehouse only a few minutes away.

The room was very basic and more run down than photos suggested. The curtain rail was hanging off the wall and curtains didn't fully cover the windows. The "view" outside the window was a breezeblock wall. Light fitting was missing a bunch of pieces. Cushions in room not clean. Everything was just a bit ragged around the edges. The cups, spoons and kettle were dirty so we couldn't even make a coffee in the morning. The mattress was an old spring kind that was not at all comfortable so neither of us slept well. Overall very disappointing for the price - I have stayed in youth hostels for a quarter of the price that were nicer. Actually caused arguments between me and partner as he was so annoyed by all of it. It is very strange that the tavern itself could be so nice but the rooms that bad.

Perfect location for our wedding at the registrar office, which was almost next door, staff friendly and helped with early check in

The parking in Alnwick is not really geared for long stays at the hotel, you can't park outside the hotel for longer than 2 hours, and when you do find other disc car parks, be wary of exactly how long you can park for, because there are different carparks with different times, even though they are next to each other - it's not universal - one of our guests got caught ( £50 fine )
