The whole place was excellent, the location opposite the castle is an absolute bonus and the book shop up the road.

We absolutely loved our stay at Bailiffgate Hotel and would happily give it 10 out of 10. The hotel is stunning and in a wonderful location, right next to Alnwick Castle, with the town centre, shops and restaurants all just a few minutes’ walk away. The staff were warm and welcoming, and our room was beautiful, spacious and decorated to an exceptionally high standard. Everything felt luxurious. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the room had everything we needed. The bathroom was also huge, with a gorgeous round bath, a large shower and two sinks. Breakfast was delicious, with an excellent cooked breakfast and plenty of choice from the buffet. We would particularly like to mention PJ, the restaurant manager, who was lovely and incredibly attentive.

There was, however, one thing that left us feeling disappointed at checkout. We stayed for three nights at £500 per night, so we knew in advance that our bill would be £1,500 and were perfectly prepared and happy to pay it. What we were not expecting was an additional 3% service charge on the accommodation, as we had no prior knowledge of it. We are used to restaurants adding a service charge, but we travel frequently throughout the UK and Europe and have never encountered this at a hotel. At £500 per night, we would expect the room rate to cover the full cost of providing five-star service. Because the charge had not been made clear to us beforehand, it felt rather sneaky and left a slightly sour note at the end of an otherwise exceptional stay.
