Hotel Agli Artisti

Hotel Agli Artisti has one major advantage—its location. It's conveniently situated close to the train station, making it an excellent base for exploring Venice, especially if you're arriving with luggage. Unfortunately, the rest of our experience was disappointing. On our first night, we were assigned an incredibly cramped room. Imagine squeezing two queen-sized beds into what should have been a standard double room—there was barely any space left to walk. We assumed there had been a mistake, but no explanation was given during check-in. The next day, we approached reception after noticing that the advertised 18 m² room looked nothing like the one we had been assigned. Only then were we told that the hotel had been fully booked on our first night and that they had placed us in a different room. What was disappointing wasn't just the room itself, but the fact that no one informed us in advance, apologised proactively, or offered any form of compensation for the inconvenience. After changing rooms on the second day, we found that both rooms showed signs of needing maintenance. Fixtures and fittings felt worn, and overall, neither room met the standard we expected based on the listing. While the location is excellent, the poor communication, lack of transparency, and maintenance issues left us with a disappointing impression. There are plenty of accommodation options in Venice, and I would likely choose somewhere else for my next visit.

The location was most ideal as it's just a few minutes away from the Santa Lucia station. Very quiet. While on a morning walk, heard many people complaining while lugging their luggages after check out (from their hotels or apartments )to the station having to cross many bridges make this hotel an ideal location. Breakfast was typical coffee with croissants, ham and cheese, hard boiled eggs, cakes and yoghurt but it's buffet style. So very delicious. We walked everywhere starting from the hotel to the Jewish ghetto and continued to Bridge of sighs and Piazza San Marco (clockwise direction) as it was late afternoon, some areas were not so busy. Had dinner and then walked back to the hotel. The next morning we went to the Rialto market before breakfast and then check out.

For a budget hotel, we were very pleasantly surprised. The room was simple but clean, and had a safe. (No fridge though). Small balcony looking onto quiet street. Very friendly, efficient and helpful staff. Buffet breakfast included in price. Super close to the train station: a flat easy 300m walk. No hauling suitcases over bridges and steps. Only downside is it means you have to walk 20 mins to get to some things like the Rialto Bridge. When you come out of the train station towards the canal, head left and turn left into the first narrow street. Walk 2/3 down street. Look for burgandy awning with 2 large green palms either side of entry. (Just after 'The Venetian Times'). You can store your luggage there after checkout, until you're ready to leave. In summary, a great value hotel for the price. Perfect for one or two nights.

The only thing in favour of the hotel is its proximity to the train station. Its maintained neat and clean. But is where it all ends. It has nothing else that makes it recommend worthy.
