    Couldn’t fault the hotel at all lovely and clean. Comfy beds , nice and quiet, lovely staff , plenty to chose from at breakfast. Just the location for me and my daughter, dangerous road to try and cross once we had got of the bus from the metro centre . We managed to cross ok . But with over grown round about grass desperately needs cut on there , it blocks my vision from seeing what’s coming when trying to cross . But no way is this a bad review on the hotel because this is a council problem not the hotels . The council need to cut the grass and tidy up the hedges around were the pavements are too . And remove the moss of the pavement too . Make the area safe to cross the road and be able to use the pavements . To safely walk on the pavement that’s covered with overgrown hedges Like I say and I’ll repeat this is no bad review on the hotel because the hotel is beautiful and totally spotless . The areas outside is out of their control .

    2 nights Room 109, Ground Floor facing road in mid June. Stayed to visit Beamish (brilliant outdoor museum). Plus points: Much cheaper than HIE in city centre, free parking, free fast WiFi, excellent All You Can Eat free breakfast with plenty of choice. Good ensuite. Lots of buses from very early until very late. Minus points. No aircon in rooms, suspect it could get quite unpleasant if not on Ground Floor or during heatwaves. No safe, no proper wardrobe. Other points: HIE usually a good predictable choice, no local character but no nasty surprises. Opening windows. Powerful fan already in room. Reasonably quiet (traffic noise not intrusive, more like white noise, might be louder on higher floors). Friendly staff at 24h reception. Nothing nearby — adjacent Fridays is closed and boarded up, but lots of restaurants in huge Metro Centre a couple of miles away on main bus route. Bus travel to Newcastle, Beamish etc is possible but slow (Beamish about 22 mins by car, but about 1hr 20min by multiple buses.) Forget HIE membership scheme, points soon expire and room rates usually cheaper via Agoda etc. Lumo trains to Newcastle are good, air conditioned and cheap. The Aldi of 125mph travel ! Happy to stay again if I return to Beamish (tickets give 12 months' use).

    So we booked for two nights and all we can say is FIRST IMPRESSION MATTERS!! Firstly, we were given room 119. No remote control, stinky bathroom, no room remote control and contrary to the hotel’s ad on the website- no AC, No safe deposit box. Had to complain about this false advertisement, lack of attention to the room details etc… Staff mentioned that they are not aware of there ad and to avoid us complaining further, moved us to room 115. Room 115 , like 119 stinky bathroom and water overflows when taking shower. There was no toilet roll in the room, in room phone not working so had to go back and forth to the reception to ask for toilet rolls. Our experience to this particular Holiday Inn Express is really bad. Will never come back and will not recommend this hotel.
