Our stay here was superb! We had not really understood ahead of time what all was included if we upgraded to Gold Level, but it was SO worth it! We had a private check in area, which also included an exclusive breakfast and happy hour area and access to the infinity pool. You have an incredible view of the top of the Copacabana beach from the infinity pool. The absolute highlight of our stay was the welcome, ongoing assistance, overall helpfulness and kindness from Lucas Pereira (knowing we wanted to include his name in the reviews, once we found out there were several Lucas's who worked there we asked if we could have his last name or initial). We had such a fabulous stay! I would 100% recommend this hotel.

I loved the room service the two young gentlemen were very polite , professional and caring! The ac was so quiet that was a pleasure. The hotel is well located and easy to get around , beautiful beach, pleasant Fairmont’s team . Just lovely. I can’t say enough. I had high hopes for this hotel, but unfortunately, my stay fell well short of expectations and significantly impacted my trip. The hotel staff did attempt to address some issues by offering a room upgrade when we encountered problems with disruptive guests nearby, which I appreciated as a gesture of goodwill. The room itself was not in the condition I expected for the price point. The television wasn’t functioning properly upon arrival, and it took intervention from the IT team to discover that the WiFi wasn’t connected to either TV in the room - a basic amenity that should have been verified before guest arrival. During my stay, we experienced two separate power outages - one at 1:30 AM and another at 7:00 PM. While power issues can sometimes be beyond a hotel’s control, the frequency was disruptive to our schedule and comfort. There was active construction taking place during our stay, which created noise and disturbance. Unfortunately, no alternative accommodations or compensation were offered to mitigate this inconvenience. Perhaps most disappointingly, several service requests went unaddressed despite multiple attempts to follow up with staff. This lack of responsiveness made it difficult to resolve the various issues we encountered. While I understand that hotels can face unexpected challenges, the combination of technical problems, infrastructure issues, construction disruption, and poor follow-up service created a stay that didn’t meet basic hospitality standards.

Very underwhelmed and generally subpar. The hotel facility and staff seem overwhelmed and public spaces were indeed very overcrowded. Service ranged from can’t be bothered to average. The location is great otherwise do not recommend.

I stayed 15 nights at Fairmont Rio, and my experience was extremely disappointing. As a Black woman, I was repeatedly treated differently from other guests. Each time I went to the Spirit Copa Bar by the pool, staff demanded my room number, phone, and even email — making me feel as if I didn’t belong there. Meanwhile, white friends who visited me were never asked any questions, even though they weren’t guests at the hotel. When I raised this with a manager, instead of apologizing, he insisted it was “standard procedure.” Clearly, it was a procedure applied only to me. To make things worse, after I returned home, I found an unauthorized charge of USD $7,726.97 on my credit card from this hotel, even though my stay was already fully paid. This was supposed to be a luxury vacation, but instead it became emotionally draining and deeply hurtful. No guest should go through discrimination or financial abuse like this.

The rooms and pool areas are fantastic. What lets the hotel down is the speed of the staff. We waited long periods for drinks by the pool and in the bar at night. We also asked for our bill 3 times before we went to walk out after waiting half an hour. We came here for a special occasion after staying at the Pestana Rio Atlantica, the remainder of our holiday. The rooms and facilities at the Fairmont are far superior, but the service and prices are far better at Pestana. Both have excellent locations and views on Copacabana Beach. Another small detail is non smoking policies by the pool at Pestana are far better.

I recently stayed at the Fairmont Rio for a week. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, but the hotel is showing its age. The entire property, including the rooms, feels extremely tired, as if it hasn’t been renovated or properly maintained in at least 20 years. Many details were worn or damaged: the basin had chipped edges, some facility signs were broken, and general wear-and-tear was noticeable throughout. Worse, there seemed to be an issue in every room. My original room had an air conditioner that rattled nonstop, making it impossible to sleep properly for two nights. The staff were friendly and promptly moved me to another room, but in the new room, the shower drain didn’t work, leaving a pool of water after every use that only cleared when housekeeping came. That said, the location is unbeatable. The hotel is surrounded by fantastic restaurants and plenty of breakfast spots. It’s also just a short stroll to both Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, making it ideal for exploring. The hotel breakfast was disappointing - very basic for the price. You can find much better quality and variety outside at a fraction of the cost. On the plus side, the gym was well-equipped, with dumbbells up to 26kg, four 20kg plates, and a Smith machine, a great perk for fitness enthusiasts.

The Fairmont is a beautiful property with lovely views from the restaurant and an amazing spa. The Amazon experience treatment in the spa was the best three hours I’ve had in many years. My only issue is that the lost and found has been unresponsive and I left something in the room that I would like to get back.

We stayed at the Fairmont for 4 nights. The location between Copacabana and Ipenema beach is fantastic. Our room had a view onto the sugarloaf and we enjoyed sitting on the balcony watching people on the beach and in the water. We only had one dinner in the hotel restaurant. It was amazing. The breakfast buffet had a good selection. Rooms were spacious and clean and the beds comfortable. The shower pressure was excellent. But most importantly, the staff were always helpful and nice. I highly recommend this hotel.

The doors to balcony are not good enough considering the rooms are above the pool/restaurant - they need to improve/update them- the hotel was very busy as it was the end of Carnival but the noise went very late into the night. The room was comfy nothing special and def not as good as other Fairmonts.
