Its location, the room and the breakfast
Could hear the road outside but that’s nothing negative about the hotel, as they wouldn’t be able to do anything about it.

Friendly and perfect location
One issue with the water in the shower tray not draining causing a mini flood in room - needs rectifying as other guests might not be as laid back as us!

The staff were so friendly and helpful. We especially thought the manager was cheerful and attentive, she was always smiling
Breakfast was great, large and hot.
Great atmosphere in bar and restaurant.
The rooms are very dark but understand that is for aesthetics. A better light in the bathroom and an extractor would be a good addition.
There was also a bit of confusion about allowing our dog in the room which was initially uncomfortable but the issue was soon sorted and for the rest of our stay we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Friendly staff and great breakfast. Comfy bed and fabolous bathroom. Quirky little place.
Being right on the road, it was a bit noisy first thing in morning.

THE BREAKFAST WAS REALLY GREAT AND THE ROOM WAS LOVELY
The only thing in our room was the bed was a 4 poster and was very squeeky

Great location for what we were after. The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive. The room was very clean and nicely decorated, the bed comfortable and the bathroom had a lovely large walk in shower. A mini fridge with milk and water was much appreciated.
We managed to secure the sofas in front of the log burner for the evening and had a lovely cosy evening in the pub.
As we’d seen from other reviews our room was right above quite a busy road so traffic noise is something to consider if you’re not used to that.
A little niggle as the room was lovely but the metal bed frame was very squeaky every time one of you moved so some WD40 might be a quick fix for a more restful night.

Lovely old building but they come with inherent problems and the poor staff were trying to sort out a plumbing issue and flooding which meant closing in the afternoon. We weren’t able to get in to find out about checking in or to have a drink but it was all explained to us by the excellent manager who reassured us that we would still be able to stay.
We didn’t have a problem but it’s right on the main road so could be noisy traffic at times.
I thought the bed cover smelled a bit ‘doggy’ in the night. We would book the room that dogs aren’t allowed in next time. My husband couldn’t smell it at all.

The staff at this place are brilliant! My wife had to have surgery the week was supposed to stay here and they gladly moved my date to another month, they didn’t need too but they did . Our stay the staff was amazing nothing too much bother and very friendly.
The room was clean tidy , the bed so so comfortable.
The location is fantastic too right in the heart of the village. We will definitely be stopping in the hope and Anchor again

Lovely Pub right in the heart of Wirksworth with (paid) parking right outside. Really friendly and helpful staff. Great breakfast. Room was toasty warm and decorated with Christmas trimmings.
You could hear a bit of chatter from the Pub below but not intrusive and that’s what you expect if you stay in a pub isn’t it.

We liked the style of the whole hotel and bar area and restaurant.
Food was good as expected.
The staff were all fabulous and especially the young woman who worked in the restaurant and did Saturday breakfast. She was very accommodating.
We found the traffic noise from the road outside distubing from 6am. Large lorries thundered past from early till late afternoon. There were some road closures coming from Ashbourne and this may have added to the problem. Iwas very cold in the restaurant despite sitting near to a radiator but it's a big place and probably difficult to heat. Staff have put blankets on chairs probably for this reason.
There were good efficient heaters in the bedroom thankfully.

Were lucky enough to stay here albeit only for one night, in a beautiful part of the country, parking right outside of the building, yes you have to pay but it is very reasonable, do not forget as it is managed and I did see a couple of cars with tickets. Inside is cosy and warm, main bar quite small but it just gave it that community feeling, the locals were super friendly and the barlady even let me try a couple of the local beers before I decided. Our room was cosy and warm, the bed was uber comfy but maybe a tad too close to the window for my liking, not the cold for one second but I have to sleep on a certain side and it was just a bit of a squeeze for me to get to the bathroom, which now we're on the subject was really nice, huge shower and well kitted out. The pub didn't even mind that we took two dogs with us which was nice of them. Breakfast was fantastic and being the only people staying there on that night I did feel a bit sorry for chef who came in to cook us a lovely breakfast, plenty of choice of cereals, lovely bread and a toaster incase we wanted any, which I made use of.
All in all a really pleasent stay in a lovely pub with lovely staff and nice locals. Really enjoyed it, would I stay there again ?, absolutely yes if I found myself in that part of the country again.
Nothing to complain about on that one

This is our favourite pub in Wirksworth, we had never stayed overnight before and we are very glad that we did. We stayed in the largest of the 3 rooms which we found to be beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean with a lovely comfy bed and modern en-suite shower room. As usual the staff we met were so friendly and helpful, often going out of their way to make sure that you have a good experience.
Can't thnk of a single fault. There really was nothing that could or should have been done that would have made the stay better.

Nice pub in the middle of a quaint little village. Very friendly staff.
Nice home cooked food.
Parking tight outside although you do have to pay for it!
Our room was on the side where traffic passes so was a bit noisy when a vehicle came past during the night.
Bed was nice but the pillows weren’t the best and the quilt was very hot.

Had a lovely stay at the Hope & Anchor in a nice little town. The food we had in restaurant was great including the breakfast. All the staff were really friendly would definitely recommend
The food and our bedroom was a good size and lovely decor.

The building has recently been refurbished by the brewery. The building is listed and like all old buildings must be difficult to keep free of problems. The room was tastefully decorated. Staff were friendly and professional. The meal was very good and the four cask beers well kept.
No parking for the pub. There is an adjacent pay and display car park (£6 for 24 hours).

Decorated in a rustic but modern style. The staff were lovely especially the manager she was very attentive as were the bar staff
Parking was annoying as it was council run and we struggled to download the app. This obviously is not the pubs fault

The room was spotless, decorated in, what I would call Industrial Chic. Roomy enough with an excellent en-suite shower/toilet.
Comfortable bed, super soft duvet, comfortable pillows and quality towels provided.
The pub is dog friendly or should I say very dog friendly. Ruby met lots of new friends, both staff and customers. There is a dog walk area in the meadow, just 5 minutes walk from the pub.
We had the evening meal, which was tapas. The service was excellent, thanks Jayne and the food exceptionally tasty.
Breakfast was great too.
A proper pub stay, did I mention the brilliant cask ales and interesting whisky selection?
Nothing, leave it alone!!

The H&A certainly has character. Bedroom excellent, apart from road noise. Bar and restaurant was very welcoming, as were all the staff. We eat in the evening, the food was excellent and reasonably priced.
Road noise, but can’t be helped.

As an octogenarian the staff could not have been more kind and helpful. Totally amazing. The shower room was fantastic. Breakfasts were brilliant. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming.
Early morning heavy vehicle traffic was a problem but they did warn me. The room was small but adequate for my short stay.

I was caught in traffic so was later arriving than I'd hoped but Josh was absolutely wonderful, going above and beyond. The room was beautifully presented, smelt divine and although on quite a busy road was exceptionally quiet.

The staff were exceptionally welcoming, especially Jacob who could not have done more for us had he tried.
Location is on a main road, which is quite busy at rush hour. It wasn’t a problem for ourselves. It certainly would not stop us returning.

We loved the location, the atmosphere and energy of this hotel. The manager, Jacob took very good care of us! The Snug Room is a great place to hang out after dinner! The beds are very comfortable with nice pillows. The big room on the corner is especially nice! The breakfast is great too.
We were there in the summertime so our windows needed open, and because this hotel is located right in the heart of town there is road noise.
