Alte Schreinerei Boutique Hotel

For us, it was convenient to visit long time friends. Yet, we also found the neighborhood to be fun and inviting. There are several local fun places to visit- an ice cream shop, an Italian pizza parlor, a bakery, and a restaurant. At least three ways to enter the Rhine River walking path, a cool local church, and even a pharmacy if needed. Walking about 20 min up river you find another wonderful restaurant in a boat tied to a dock. Great coffee and breakfast.

Maybe the stairs are steeper than in the USA but they are well designed and beautiful.

We booked this accommodation via Booking.com, mainly because of the positive reviews. What already surprised us was that online – both on the property’s own website and on Booking.com – there were very few photos available. Despite that, we allowed ourselves to be convinced by the good ratings and by the description as a “boutique hotel.” Upon arrival, we received the key from a lockbox with a code. When we went to open our room (Timmermanns Suite), we found that it was not secured with a normal lock, but with a padlock – see attached photos. On entering the room, we immediately noticed a musty smell, which was very unpleasant. In addition, we observed several serious shortcomings: • No smoke detector or CO detector in the room, even though there was a wood-burning stove (a serious safety risk). • No emergency exit signs or evacuation plan anywhere in the room or building. • Bathroom and toilet had no windows or mechanical ventilation, which is legally required. • The room was advertised as a Junior Suite, but it did not meet that standard at all: there was no separate sitting area, no table and no chairs – only a small dressing table. Because of these issues, we decided to stay only one night instead of the three nights we had booked, and we left the next day. We filed an official complaint with Booking.com and immediately informed the property owner as well – but unfortunately, we never received any response from the owner. In conclusion: this accommodation does not meet the minimum safety and comfort standards expected of a hotel room, let alone of a “boutique hotel” or a “junior suite.” We feel misled and cannot recommend this property at all.

Nice and quiet! The ambiance of the house and the kindness of the host! The appartment has everything you need to have for a wonderfull get away!

Beautiful location, cosy accommodation and very friendly host. Plus a delicious continental breakfast included! Highly recommend!

Beautiful B&B with lovely rooms. Breakfast was very good with fresh and local products. Child friendly.
