We only stayed one night visiting friends, but he hotel has made sure we'll return for a longer stay

The Mistley Thorn is in an excellent quite location overlooking the water and a very pleasant walk into Manningtree town. The breakfast as part of the price was very good with lots of choice using local produce and service was exemplary. The room was nice and large with a lovely view overlooking the bay and bathroom facilities can't be faulted.

The staff, food and ambiance was great. The room was lovely, but alot of stairs to each level. These stairs are steep so I would recommend it’s not great for everyone. First floor, lounge and shower/toilet and send floor bedroom and bathroom with bath. As I say loads of steep stairs but nevertheless it was a great suite and very clean. The food was excellent, staff friendly and very nice Well worth a stay

Great food, lovely location and attentive staff. Comfortable and would visit again.

Restaurant was fantastic. Food at Breakfast & dinner was exceptional. Service was good. Room was comfortable, but bed could have been better. Two singles pushed together wasn't the most comfortable. The noise from the Road was also noticeable. Other than these points the stay was perfect and I would stay again.

A really surprising excellent stay.

Wide choice, I was able to choose a fulfilling option at less calories than the usual full breakfast. Though that's also available. Good service and nice views across the river.

I can't think of any negatives. It was a bit expensive for my tastes. Travelling by train is my first choice these days, hence I need to stay as locally as possible, to reduce taxi fares and therefore have little choice of where I eat. But this was an excellent stay for quality of food and value. So good if you want to eat in the restaurant, even as a guest, you should book in advance.

The first impression, we were not told in advance that the car park couldn't be used due to building work, we had to find somewhere else to park. The hotel was advertised as having a car park.

Extremely satisfactory, for our all too short sojourn

The staff at the Thorn are extremely personable and efficient. The rooms we have stayed in, always at the front, are extremely comfortable. And the restaurant is excellent. Better than just pub grub!! Wait staff, particularly Amy, attentive and pleasant on a busy Friday night.

The flies!! It has been a good year for them, not for us!! Lavatory seat loose. They thanked me for the feed back. Not much to dislike in this gem!

Really nice restaurant/hotel but check on stairs

Lovely helpful staff. Meals were prepared for allergy with no fuss and alternatives given rather than just removing all the nice bits. Lovely big bed.

Stairs to first floor lounge/kitchen, further steep stairs to bedroom and another 4 steps to fantastic bathroom. No photos of this suite. Very bland decoration of white, dark grey and dark striped carpet. Only colour was in a red checked chair. Other rooms were beautifully furnished with splashes of colours. Huge lovely bed but need to be careful of skylights on moving around the bed.

The Mistley Thorn is a great base for exploring this area of Essex.

We very much enjoyed our short break in north Essex staying at the Mistley Thorn. The room was separate from the main hotel; it was a large suite - more than enough room for us. Nicely decorated and in good order. The breakfasts were great and the one lunch and two dinners we had were very good indeed. A full restaurant - everyone and everything worked seamlessly. Popular with the locals - always a good sign! Delicious seafood. Burger was one of the best we've had in a long time. The train station is a short walk away and the local bus stops outside the hotel. A welcoming place to stay.

Amazing,

totally relaxing,Food was great, as was the room, We had everything we needed in our Room.(even a toaster,) I had hesitated about going a day early and now wish I had as I could then have used the facilities to their full. we had an evebing meal in the resturant ( would advise booking in advance) then returned for breakfast .All the food was of a high standard, and staff where attentive,Will defiently be going back

Previous Reviews about the car park, ok it only holds about 3 cars, But the roads and car parks are free and No parking restrictions, we managed to park outside easy enough so NOT an issue.Could Not fault the Hotel,The Food or the staff

We decided not to have breakfast as we’d booked a table for lunch at midday.

The option to check out at midday would have been helpful as we had an hour to kill before lunch, checking out at 11am. I would have even been happy to pay an additional charge for a later check out.
