Masutomi Ryokan

It was just a few minutes walking distance from the train station, the room is spacious and the onsen was so good! They have two public onsen and a rooftop private onsen. We used all three of them, the private one was nice but a bit small. My favorite was the big one on first floor. My daughter and I both loved it and we actually never shared it with anyone else every time we used it. And the food was so delicious!!! We stayed for 2 nights, both days we had different food at both breakfast and dinner.

No shower in guest room, but honestly it wasn’t a big deal since we used the shower in onsen a couple of times each day.

Beautiful ryokan with spacious rooms, exquisite food and the kindest staff- only 5-10 min walk from the station. Choice of multiple public onsen or the private onsen upstairs for 3300 yen which was fantastic. Half board is a must, the kaiseki and dining area are something special.

Wonderful Ryokan Onsen just a short walk from the train station in Hakone. The host was lovely and the food was exceptional, with so many different little bites to taste. The onsen was very relaxing and we got to try two of them as she rotates which Onsen is male/ female over different hours. Based on the listing which said shared bathroom, I had thought we would also have shared toilets and sinks but those were private which was an unexpected benefit.

It is very minor but since this was our first ryokan onsen stay, we would have loved a bit more explanation on etiquette. As it was, we did some quick Googling and it was fine.

Staying here felt like a true Japanese experience - we loved the place. Very handy location - about 5 mins walk from the train station. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We arrived a couple of hours early and there was no problem checking in. The room was really comfortable and much larger than I expected. The onsen was lovely to relax in. Breakfast is a real Japanese experience that we thoroughly enjoyed. I would definitely stay here again.

Nothing to do with the hotel but restaurants in Hakone close very early so be warned! At 6.30 we had to join an hour long queue for a pizza restaurant (very good) that was the only place open.
