The kindness of staff and the onsen facilities were wonderful l!

This was a charming place and peaceful place to stay, if you're ok with not having a private bathroom. However, there is a sink in the room. It's two bus stops from the train station, and the bus stops right outside the property, which makes it easy to take the bus up the mountain. Aside from breakfast, there is no food at the property or nearby, but there are food options one bus stop away, and the room has a refrigerator. It was clean and quiet, and the outdoor onsen was lovely.

I got in at night; it was raining and I hadn't eaten, so I wish there had been at least some snacks and water you could buy at the property.

An absolutely gorgeous old traditional building set between a green forested mountain, a huge roaring river and a busy road. The room was beautiful, the onsen were even better, I was blown away and didn’t leave the hotel for 24hours. The staff were also excellent.

Very sad to say the busy road. Clearly, these beautiful old buildings were there long before the road got busy. It didn’t stop me from sleeping well. I still highly recommend this hotel. Don’t miss out on the Onsen at the main building which overlooks the forest and river

Beautiful traditional building with good location, nice bedroom and access to onsens

Despite the positives of this hotel, our feeling walking away is that it is overpriced for the services you get. We had an included breakfast, which the website indicated would include coffee, but when we asked for a cup of coffee the staff indicated that it was 550 yen per cup. When we showed them the information we received, they apologised for the mistake but still didn't agree to providing the coffee without the extra fee. It might seem like a minor point, but for a hotel at this price point, we were quite disappointed. Overall, our stay was okay (we knew the building was old and not very soundproof and that the traditional bed might be a little hard for our habits, so that didn't bother us), but we were left with a disappointed feeling in comparison to the exceptional level of service we have received at other ryokans we stayed in at a (sometimes much) lower price point.
