The Okura Prestige Taipei

Property was clean staff friendly but at the same time the level of English proficiency did not meet our expectations. Whilst both myself and my girlfriend speak and understand Japanese at an advanced level not everyone does and we also speak Chinese natively as well but what if I’m really a western tourist I would be in a situation that is awkward. Not knowing and with little acknowledgment. The spa team was bordering on rude expecting us to not have used such facilities before, I can say that the so called spa is not worth the visit sadly. The room bathtub and facilities are dated and old and could use more of a cleaning. That being said the stay was pleasant and location in the heart of town okay for us. Not super but okay.

Breakfast is good. Location is excellent. Staff is helpful and polite, especially concierge Steve Yang.

Pillows are too soft.

Good bed and gym. The bakery goodies (pineapple cakes, nougat) at Nine on 1F was amazing.

Rude reception, room was not ready when I arrived so I had to come back. When I arrived after dinner with my luggage tag, the lady at reception was annoyed and snatched it out of my hands. No one bothered to show me to the room or have a warm welcome. Very disappointing for a 5 star hotel. No warm smiles but instead staring and unhelpful. Saving grace was Sandra who helped to patiently check me in on the first juncture - she was polite, professional and explained delays well.
