This proved to be a great little place to stay for a brief two-day visit to Oxford. We were there primarily to tour sites of interest to C. S. Lewis fans, and the location of this guest house was perfect for us. It’s a 35-minute walk or 8-minute drive to the Lewis house, now delightfully preserved. We added in a stop at Holy Trinity Church, to pay our respects to Lewis’s grave and to see the church itself, where he and his brother attended for years, and where they are both buried. We especially enjoyed our walk to both; the church is on the way to the house. From there, after our tour of the house and pond area, we grabbed an Uber to get directly into Oxford proper. Lewis’s college, Magdalen, is the first one you get to, and your driver can let you off right at the (small and unassuming) entrance. From there, Oxford is a picture postcard everywhere you look. There is also a bus to the University with a stop very close to Pickwick’s. Another great feature, as there is nowhere to park in Oxford proper, and they discourage tourist cars. Our room was basic and rather small, but clean and comfortable. The shared bathroom, kept very tidy, was right outside our room, and we had a sink in the room itself. All staff were incredibly kind and helpful, and the extra-charge breakfast—cooked to order—was surprisingly good, as was the whole place, especially at this price point. There is a really cute garden in the back, and ample off-street parking in the front.
