when we arrived there was no one at the reception for 5 minutes and no way to get anyone’s attention. Just before we got our keys we were told that we had to pay a €10 tourist tax. We stayed in room 306 and noticed that the toilet hadn’t been previously flushed which was quite vile. As well as this the AC didn’t work, there was writing on the wall,

horrible. dirty. I try not to touch anything. The hallway stinks.

Unfortunately, in the first room i was given, the toilet was broken and the water was running all day and night long. I was given another room and was allowed to use both rooms. The guy at the reception was nice and easy to talk to. For checking-in you have to call or wave your hand at the camera in the entrance.

Rude staff and dirty rooms!!!

I have been asked by yourselves to review my stay in the Golden Zaan Hotel Amsterdam Zaandam so here goes. Quite simply put, this was the dirtiest most scummy hovel I have ever encountered in life. I am shocked this hovel can even be advertised as a Hotel by yourselves! At best it is a hostel. Whilst I have stayed at an assortment of hotels over my 67 years of age, I am not particularly fussy. Both myself and my wife have two minimum requirements from a hotel. Firstly a decent bed and pillow with clean sheets to get a comfortable nights sleep. Secondly, a decent shower facility with hot and cold running water. This establishment failed on both of these.

This hotel is good if you only plan to sleep and not stay in much. Bed sheets were ripped, drain was stinking. Towel in the room was dirty, I left it at reception before we went out and I came to collect one in the afternoon. I was given the same dirty yellow stained towel. Staff were okay but you have to talk to a camera to get them to come to you

This place was horrible to stay at and creepy. The doors do not lock and it’s unsafe with children. The rooms are dirty and so are the bathrooms and there’s never a receptionist and there is bad air in the room leading you to have difficult difficulties breath

Do NOT be fooled by the reviews on here, always check trip advisor!!! This hotel shouldn’t even be running, it needs to be burnt down!! From the minute we got there, we waited 45 minutes for someone to come and check us in, even after trying to call the hotel number three times (which I was charged for) As we walked up the stairs (no lift) my partner could only describe the smell as ‘a damp old caravan’ When we entered the room, we first off noticed the stained, two bob “blinds” and the walls and ceiling were covered in laminate FLOORING! Which may I add, some missing so left a creepy open bit of ceiling above the bed. I then, reluctantly, went into the bathroom and it is only what I can describe as a 3 in 1, you can brush your teeth, whilst having a toilet and showering at the same time. To my surprise I opened the toilet roll flap and there lay TWO USED SANITARY TOWELS rolled up and the stench.. WOW.. Even when using the sink, the smell of sewage stunk out the whole bedroom. Unfortunately, for us, we couldn’t book another hotel so we ended up staying the night, only sleeping and getting out as soon as possible. After multiple times going down to reception and calling again & again, we still were not able to see anyone at the front desk or tell anyone about this. This hotel is listed as a 3 star and from the reviews and photos based on this website, is the reason we booked. I understand it’s cheap and you get what you pay for but this was another level. DO NOT BE FOOLED

It was really dirty. The hotel is very old with lots of humidity. First the receptionist gave a room that was really dirty, i asked him to change the room and he kindly did it. The new room was better but still dirty. I did not like this hotel when i compare it with other hotels that I reserved with the same price. In total, i give 1 star out of 5 to this property.

Get what you pay for but overall clean place to stay and good for travelling into Amsterdam The staff are also lovely and helpful

They gave me a room, I entered, water was flowing from under the sink to my feet, I called the receptionist, he came and changed the room, I went into another room, the toilet and shower were terrible, the cleanliness was zero. As I was leaving, I remembered that I had left my headphones under the pillow, I called the hotel twice, they said they would check it and let me know.

We entered the the golden zaan which we booked through Expedia and was asked straight away for extra money which we were not told about. Then once we entered the room it was dirty and smelly and had nothing inside apart from a bed which was also filthy and disgusting. On Expedia it was said that the room that we had booked had a mini fridge and that it was a queen bed room this was nothing like described and the pictures were also falsely advertised as the room looked nothing like this. We could not stay there and explained this to reception, as we booked through Expedia they had said we need to issue the refund through you. Then management ignored the calls and denied the refund. Such poor experience from both the hotel and Expedia. Expedia were very unsupportive and said they cannot do anything as the hotel did not give permission. Expedia are falsely advertising this hotel and this should not be allowed! Very bad customer service from both sides and will not be using Expedia again!

Would stay again, for the price you cannot go wrong, we stayed here on a 2night/3day trip. Me and my partner went out everyday and only used the room to sleep and shower and it was very nice

Honestly this is barely a hotel. No amenities, terrible facilities. No shampoo, Conditioner, hand soap. The only shower gel was a quarter of a bottle of some ones dove shower gel that looks like it was left there. When we arrived no one was at the reception, the hotel smelled strange and was a little creepy. Our room wasn't fully clean. There was lipstick on the mirror, the drain in the shower was displaced. The bed sheet was too small for the bed and wouldn't stay on. There was burns/stains on the duvet, brown stains/mess on the walls and stains on the curtains. Additionally the AC remote was on but no batteries were in the remote. Plus we found a used vape underneath the bed. We were provided with two towels, (for two adults), to last us the 4 nights. And the shower/wet room is dingy, with the shower space being too small so the wet cold shower curtain will stick to you when using it. Sadly there wasn't any breakfast or anything, which is fine, but there wasn't even a kettle or the necessary amenities in the room to make tea. No one came to clean our room during this stay or provide more towels. In fact we had to ask for more toilet paper as we ran out very quickly. When we checked out there wasn't any staff there to see us off. If not for the fantastic activities we had planned in the city, I think we would have struggled to enjoy ourselves. This hotel seems more like a hostel with private rooms/bathrooms. I think they could easily do a lot more improve their service.

Good hotel for a cheap price, tge beds were comfy, maybe a bit of natural light would have been nice.

AC remote had no batteries, room had no soap and the handle to he bathroom door was broken, I got stuck inside.. luckily I had my friend there to get me out.

Pleseant stay, good sized room everything in working order and friendly staff - staff are not always at reception however phone number provided and staff assisted within minutes when there was issues with our key card. The mattress was comfortable however the duvet was not thick enough for the two of us. Thank you

Room was very very basic. One of the twin beds was broke. TV had no channels and the shower was next to the toilet with no visible drainage. Needs major revamp.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!! Other than the man behind the desk being somewhat helpful after we waited for 20 minutes for someone to show up this place should be off this website. I don’t leave reviews normally cause it’s kinda tedious. Let’s start with walking into the room and the door doesn’t even need a key to work. Next there was a guy in the room literally re-caulking the bathroom. Walked into the room and there was a bed bug on the bed. I went to grab a tissue to throw it in the toilet and there was unflushed poop in the toilet. There was brown mold coming out from the wall and a pube on the bed. I left 5 minutes after walking in. When trying to get a refund because they charged us 600 dollars for the room that I was in for 5 minutes there was no help. No manager to talk to no one to answer. Never give this place your money. Stay away!

Broken bed had to ask for additional towels as there was 2 of us staying and they only supplied 1 big towel an 1 little hand towel the tv did not work there is a air conditioning unit in there that does not work all in all it was a box room with two single beds in there an that’s it and I will not be staying here again definitely not worth the money

The recepcionist was not in the counter some times. The water in the shower did not flow correctly trough the draner so some times it flooded. Zaandam is a nice and cozy place and having a supermarket near by was fantastic!!!!
