Golden Zaan Hotel, Zaandam-Amsterdam

The building is very tired.

Near hotel ,very nice but hotel was very bad,not towels in the bathroom and smell horrible

The weren't any towels in the room (thank god I brought one), and the TV was also broken...

That place is too bad. The hygiene is too bad and the inside is too broken. It should not be allowed to sell at this price. It is still open for business.

The location is great! The staff mostly speaks English which was helpful.

The bathroom was pretty small. Also our room wasn’t exactly clean, to the point that we asked for new sheets even to change them ourselves if they couldn’t clean it or move us to a new room. We never got the clean sheets. There were also crumbs & other things in the floor that were in the room when we got there.

The location at the Golden Zaan was very good. The train station was about a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel, and from there you could get cheap trains all across the country. The neighbourhood was charming and quiet, and there were nice places to eat within a 1-5 minute walk. About 7 minutes away there was a very lively area with a number of classy restaurants with street seating and indoor seating. It was also close to a very pretty canal.

The hallways and stairs were grimy and looked like they had not been vacuumed in a long time. Strong-scented febreeze units covered up odours in the hallways. If you get headaches from scents, beware. In the bedroom, the sheets were too small for the mattress, so almost as soon as you reclined on the bed they popped off the corners revealing a scratchy, stained, grimy mattress. The pillows were covered in yellowed, mismatched pillowcases that were far too large for the pillows. The walls of the bedroom were scuffed and the wallpaper was ripped in spots. The window in the room was so high up that you had to stand on a stool to look out of it, and the windowsill had come unglued, was loose, and had not been dusted in a long while. The bathroom featured a waterproof floor with a drain, and you pulled a curtain around one corner of the room for the shower. When you took a shower the whole bathroom got soaked. During the entirety of our stay, the room smelled like sewage, even though we kept the door to the bathroom shut at all times. There was a tv in the room, and the light from the remote receiver on the tv was covered up with band-aids so that it was not as bright. The back of the tv remote was missing and the batteries kept falling out. The staff was not very accommodating. Our booking confirmation, and the booking.com listing said that check-in time was 2pm. My friend and I showed up at 2:19pm, after one of the biggest storms the Netherlands had had in a decade. The streets were littered with fallen trees and branches, all stores and restaurants were closed, all public transportation was cancelled, and it was raining out. The host abruptly told us that we were too early to check in and that we had to come back in half an hour. He allowed us to set our baggage in a closet but then sent us back outside into the rain to walk around until our room was ready. Though a budget-priced hotel, basic expectations of cleanliness and courtesy were not met.

Amazing staff, always happy to help with a smile. Property was clean and inviting with air con and lit rooms.

I’ve no complaints at all. Everything was exceptional.

It was only 2 stops of train away to centre.

Room was not clean. Bathroom everything was disgusting. Including towels.

Never had a problem that Golden zaan hotel, was not willing to fix! I have thoroughly enjoyed my trips booking through them and will always recommend it. Very reliable and helpful.

So easy to use and found some amazing hostels, cant wait to visit them next month.

It was in a very pretty town, and with many shops and leisure activities, just 10 minutes from the center of amsterdam (by train)
