Quick check in process. Our room was a family triple room on the top floor. Room ok, 1 double and 1 single bed. Limited plug sockets (had to keep swapping and changing from kettle to hairdryer etc) and could do with an extension lead so can use hairdryer infront of mirror! Shower very low down in height (im only 5' 6 and needed to bend down to fit underneath it). Stair way down smelt of cigarette smoke. Breakfast not included in price and very expensive

The breakfast was really good. We used to have dogs but sadly lost both of them last year, but what we could see with people with the dogs were well catered for. We did feel that even though very clean a bit of updating needed overall, the dining room was lovely(looked new).

A pleasant stay in an old hotel situated near the River Wye in Symonds Yat. Lovely walks very close to the hotel and some water sports hire a few minutes walk from the hotel.

Interesting rambling hotel built into the hillside, resulting in multiple steps up to the bedrooms. Excellent restaurant and friendly and helpful staff. Minor niggles on the plumbing & shower: the cold pipe appear to be bundled with the hot and produces tepid water unless run for a long time - not ideal in a heatwave. The soap dispensers are about head level that make them awkward to operate. A lower location would be better. No basket or shelf in the shower for flannel or own soap or shampoo.

Enjoyed our stay at the Royal Lodge. Dinner was really good. Everything was dog friendly and even she was given a little meal. Felt the rooms could do with a little revamping but were clean and tidy.

Beautiful scenery but I'm still waiting for the refund you agreed. I stayed 2 nights but a third was taken from my account and I was told it would take 4 to 5 days to refund. It's now10 days and no sign.

Location was excellent. Beautiful scenery and very quiet. Staff are pleasant and very helpful. However, we were very disappointed with the accommodation. We noticed after arrival that the property website stresses that it is not a 4 star hotel but a lodge. I assume this is because other guests have been similarly disappointed by the supposedly 4 star accommodation. This accommodation is not 4 star by any standard! The property is very dated and in need of refurbishment. Food also was not great and quite pricey.

On the whole it was a good stay; there were only two issues we faced: 1) We had to pay £20 for our dog, which we were not told about until we arrived! 2) We thought the on-line information said we could take the dog into the dinning room/restaurant - but we found this was not permitted, hence we did not have an evening meal or a breakfast, because we would not leave our small dog alone in the room.

The only good thing about this hotel was the location. It is rated 8/10 but I wouldn't give it any more than 4. The price was far too high for the standard of room, which basically had a sink in the bed room and a toilet and shower in a cupboard the opposite end of the room. The price of the food was too expensive. Not even free parking. Very disappointing.

The staff are friendly, professional and welcoming with a ready smile. Clearly there has been upgrades and investment in some areas of the Lodge, with a new light and airy dining area. However, the flat roof of the new dining area limited the 'river view' from our first floor room window where the view is now about half to two third flat roof. The Lodge is well situated to access all the beautiful walks and view points which is what drew us here. We were out walking for hours and the helpful map/leaflet in the Reception area was brilliant. The room we had was clean, spacious and deceptively warm which was welcome after a long walk. The shower and toilet were together in an 'en suite' with the hand basin outside in the room itself which felt a little odd and inconvenient. From an aesthetic perspective the PAT test stickers, whilst reassuring, could be placed out of sight on the lamps etc. and the anaglypta wallpaper felt dated. The sofa in the room offered little in support so we did not sit on it after the first try and unfortunately the bed was not to our comfort liking. To give the Lodge credit when we mentioned this they said they would have offered another room however were fully booked, so we left a day early. Breakfast was delicious! Good quality ingredients and lots of choice. We cannot recommend the combo continental and cooked option enough.

A fantastic location. Staff were excellent and very helpful. Room was very well priced, somewhat dated though (decor, small TV, shower, etc) but clean, comfortable, complementary water/biscuits and a great view. Food was very good indeed, but heavily priced (e.g. £25.95 curry, £18.95 spaghetti Bolognese, £7.50 pint lager, £10.95 continental breakfast) - also watch out for the service charge when settling up. Breakfast good. Parking £7/night and right next to the hotel. There's no phone signal here and WiFi was absolutely shocking - intermittently available only in one corner of my room (sometimes), or more reliable in the bar/beer garden area. Overall I would definitely stay again for a relaxing break with great food and staff, but couldn't recommend this for a business stay if you need WiFi to complete your work - unless you're happy to sit in the bar and do it! Also lots of picturesque walks, canoeing and wildlife at this location.
