For Students Only - 8 Roxburgh Edinburgh

Fabulous location- which is the main reason I booked this property. I was visiting the Fringe and being so central meant that I could pop back between shows and relax or have a drink. I had a room on the fourth floor which had fabulous views of Salibury Crags and Calton Hill. What an absolute treat! The room was spacious and basic, as expected, and the shared bathroom facilities were fine. Picking up the key from the lockbox was easy and instructions easy to follow.

As others have mentioned, the kitchen facilities were closed and this was only mentioned at the very last moment. I'd suggest strongly that this is made more clear at the point of booking. I've stayed in student accommodation in Edinburgh many times and have always had access to shared kitchen facilities. Luckily I brought my travel kettle so was able to make a hot drink in my room. Given the high cleaning cleaning fee, I was surprised that the inside of the windows was so dirty I could write my name in the grime! The windowsills could also have done with a wipe down.

These dorm rooms were located only two blocks from the Royal Mile and would be excellent for anyone wanting to get a taste of Edinburgh, and even better to get a taste of the Fringe Festival in August. The instructions to get in were precise, and an elevator was an added bonus, considering my room was on the 4th floor (5th in American terms.) Each room had a sink in it, and the four bathrooms on the floor were clean and accessible. The room was a ten minute walk to the Waverley train station and five minutes from the Royal Mile. The room was also situated about five minutes in the opposite direction to arrive at multiple charity shops.

The description was accurate in that there was a bed and no A/C, but in the summer, Edinburgh A/C is determined by how much you open the window. There was a heater, which would be lovely during the winter months, and a spacious closet. The only thing missing, which would have made the stay even better, would have been a kettle in the room to make tea or coffee.

The location, the size of the room, and the bed. Very comfy.

No access to tea or coffee making facilities (a kettle would have been awesome!), and no cleaning services in the four days I was there (one or more of my hall neighbors made messes in the toilet that were there the entire time).
