Highly recommended hotel in Bruges

If you are visiting Bruges, Hotel Karel de Stoute is THE place! It is in a fantastic location - quiet, yet few steps from the centre. We've parked in a public carpark only few minutes walk away. Staff was excellent - knowledgeable, friendly, helpful. The whole hotel and our room were very comfortable and clean. Coffee and kettle were provided in the room as well as the softest towels! Even though this hotel doesn't offer breakfast, there is a cosy breakfast room with complimentary tea and coffee. Guests are encouraged to purchase breakfast from recommended cafés nearby, bring it back and enjoy at leasury pace back at the hotel. We were offered to leave our luggage while we explored Bruges some more after checking out. We will definitely be back!

You need to be careful on those steep carpeted steps:) Every possible negative has been managed to the best by the staff! For example: it was very hot during our stay and this hotel doesn't have air-conditioning, however, the staff provided an excellent fan in the room. There was not fridge in the room, however the staff offered the use of a big refrigerator downstairs. We felt well taken care of!

The hotel was very clean, and the location was excellent – close to everything we needed. These two things really made a positive impact at the start of our stay.

However, there were several things that made the experience less comfortable, especially for a longer stay. The towels were not changed even after three days, and there was no hand paper available in the toilet. The room was quite small and didn’t have basic facilities – for example, nowhere to hang wet towels and no chair or surface to place clothes.

Hotel Karel great location close to the action

The property is a fantastic location, 5 min walk to the main square. The rooms are huge great space with good facilities including coffee machine and kettle. The shower in room 2 is walk in so excellent for mobility issues.

The stairs up to the rooms are steep, I broke my leg 6 months ago so found them personally tricky but there were bannisters both sides so overall made it easier

That hotel is a hidden gem, excellent location, quiet area, clean and comfy. All amenities we needed were provided. Our host Adolfo was professional, friendly and very helpful. Would recommend that hotel

Would not stay again due to poor hospitality.

The location of the hotel was great. It was within walking distance to the main town center which was our reason for booking. The room was clean and tidy with coffee for the morning.

The host did not convey there was a timeframe for check in. We arrived at 9pm and could not get into the hotel as no staff were present and no one to answer the phone. After about an hour of waiting, we’re finally able to get into our room but still did not see any staff for the entirety of our stay. No breakfast was served and there was no heater in the room for the winter months. To stay in Bruges, pick another choice, I strongly recommend you to stay out of this place, you can find cheaper places with better service There were no instructions on where to park and host just refused to answer, we finally had to find a spot far from the place on our own

Localisation is good. Breakfast was good.

There was a strange smell in our room when we arrived, a toilet brush left inside the toilet, someone's old shower gel was left behind. Shower had to curtain, water was going on the floor. Towels were looking very old, they were rather grey than white colour. There were no hand towels. We asked for them but never got them. Nobody cleaned the room, and our old towels did not dry till next day in the bathroom. Large windows are without safety bars, there is no net curtain to give privacy from the building opposite Room was very small, hardly possible to move around the bed. Bedding was creased, looked like already used. Although I believed it was clean. Pillows were terrible, like bags filled with loose foam bits. We asked for extra ones, but they looked the same. Tables were not laid for breakfast. There was no-one at the reception most of the time. Hotel is in a nice, old building, in a convenient location but really needs someone to take of it properly. There are boxes of stuff lying around, pictures are hanged in strange places. Carpets in the common parts are not hoovered.

Healthy and varied options for breakfast, everything was very good. The room was simple but comfortable, with a private bathroom, and was clean. Also very quiet in the night. Staff was polite and friendly.

Man was a bit gruff when I was asking question about our booking, didn’t like that I rang the bell twice but was only way to talk to someone this was the only time in a four day stay that I needed to talk to someone at the hotel

Convenient location. Complimentary snacks and drinks. Room was a good size and bed comfortable.

Some of the staff were not very friendly. Stairs were uneven at the top. Bathroom door was low. My husband hit his head a couple of times.
