About this apartment rental

Saxe Coburg Place is renowned as being one of Edinburgh’s most perfect Georgian Squares. Quietly situated in the Stockbridge area of the New Town these elegant buildings are grouped round a pretty central garden. Located a twenty minute walk from the city centre Stockbridge has a very distinct character and offers a wonderful selection of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. Local businesses include an excellent cheesemonger, butcher, wine merchant and fishmonger. St Stephen’s Street is well known for its eclectic mix of Antique shops and fascinating boutiques. In this part town one is close to the wonderful open spaces of Inverleith Park and the Botanical Gardens. The Water of Leith meanders through Stockbridge and its walkway is well worth exploring – the energetic can walk either to Leith or out to the Modern Art Gallery and beyond. Keen swimmers have the Victorian Glenogle Baths on their doorstep – these have been undergoing restoration and are due to re-open in July 2010.

This drawing room apartment, sleeping four people, is situated on the first floor and has attractive leafy views both front and rear. An entrance hallway has rooms radiating off it. The beautifully proportioned sitting room, with lovely Georgian features, is at the front of the building and overlooks the attractive central garden. This room provides comfortable seating grouped round an attractive marble fireplace over which a large mirror hangs; enhancing the feeling of light and space. Large bookshelves house an interesting array of reading matter and there is also a TV with DVD Player making this a lovely spot in which to relax. Internet access is provided for the use of guests.

A light and spacious dining kitchen has vistas towards the north of the city. A large table in the centre of the room provides seating for 6. The well designed kitchen has plenty of cupboards and workspace making this an ideal choice for those intending to make the most of using the local produce on offer and spend some time cooking. There is plenty of cookware, crockery and cutlery provided as well as a hob and oven, fridge freezer, and dishwasher.

The apartment has two comfortable bedrooms both with plenty of hanging and drawer space. The Master bedroom which is decorated in calming neutral tones has a double bed and overlooks the garden. Responsive, prompt, helpful - great management of this property, a pleasure! The neighborhood is one of my favorites and has a fabulous farmers market on Sunday. It and was extremely quiet - except for a sweet late-night encounter with a fox on the street below my window (they have an eerie cry that almost sounds human).

Excellent except that the furnishings were a bit tired and in need of replacement. Window molding in living room kept falling off.

The apartment is absolutely lovely. Sun streams into the kitchen in the morning and the sitting room in the evening. It was incredibly hot during our stay (highly unusual for Scotland) but by opening the large front and rear windows, a lovely draught quickly cooled the flat and kept it cool. The apartment was incredibly quiet, more countryside than city centre and it was a real pleasure to spend time there. It is well equipped and we found everything we needed, although we did not cook, only using the oven once.At the moment, there is building work going on in the property above. This did not disturb us at all and the builders were exceptionally courteous and considerate.I used the victorian Glenogle Swim centre next door. It is a beautifully maintained pool, with gym, sauna etc. and a real pleasure to have so close. The apartment was very clean and well presented, but would now benefit from some upgrading of the sofas, paintwork etc. Some general maintenance is also required. These are a very quick fix - toilet slow to fill, bulbs for the soft lights under the units in the kitchen, new sink plugs, a new pulley or drying rack for the utility room. The hot water tap on the bathroom sink is loose. The particulars say there is a garden. There is no access to a garden from the apartment.Contact with the host was really good and they were both helpful and responsive. Overall, we had a wonderful time in an absolutely delightful apartment in a beautiful location.

We thoroughly enjoyed staying in the apartment. It is updated and nicely furnished. The location was perfect as it is about a mile to the historic sites, but also provides a respite from the crowds since it is located in a nice residential area. Excellent restaurants and shops within 1/2 mile. It is walkable, and Uber/taxis are available for reasonable fees. Notes to consider - the flat is on the second floor (if have mobility issues); building is older (as is every building in the area), so apartment shows some age even though well maintained (for some that makes it more charming, others used to modernized hotels, etc. may not prefer).

The apartment was great for a visit to Edinburgh. We were a bit conscious of the neighbours on the floor below, with two young children but didn’t cause any issues. Location was about 20 min walk from the city center but was only about 8 in a taxi.

Large apartment, central location, quiet area, property needs updating, the 2 single beds too small for adults. Property needs cleaning, toilet seat is wooden and old, toilet not flushing on first, or second flush. Shower is over the bath and the water not draining away obviously blocked with skin and hair!!! Lighting in kitchen dull. Furniture dirty, rugs dirty. This apartment is situated in a prime location inside needs sorting out urgently.
