Breakfast was fried rice and egg, with the rice a little spicy. I loved it. So delicious and a great start to the day. The location is beautiful, under Mount Batur. The hot water pools are so refreshing and nice to sit in in the morning and evening. The buildings are simple and that is the attraction. Wooden A frame houses make this a fun and interesting place to stay for a family or even two couples.

The place is a little isolated and that is the attraction. Some scooters for guest use would mean we can explore nearby restaurants and spend more in the local community without needed to call drivers for small trips to restaurants and the nearby hot springs. You can charge extra for this, we wouldn’t mind. The houses are constructed from timber with maybe tar shingles for rain protection, but aren’t insulated so can be hot in the day and get quite cold about 4-5am, and we often woke up due to the drop in temperature. Adding insulation batts to the roof and walls, with an interior wood panel, would create an insulation barrier and keep the internal temperatures more stable. It also means guests would use the air conditioner less and use less power. At 1am, we had the aircon on at 30C, which is not good for energy use and the environment. Ceiling fans would help air circulate and can be set for winter and summer use. Insulation and fans are cheap but effective ways to create good internal temperatures. Solar panels help even more. The pools are beautiful. Next to one house is a small piece of unused land. A small area with a fire pit, a small gazebo and seats would allow families to sit together outside in front of a fire and meet the guests from the other house and maybe share a bbq or some drinks. People like us like the quiet life and some outdoor areas will help us to stay at the location and share food and stories.

The proximity to the volcano was a good starting point for the trek. The mineral spring naturally heated pool was nice to relax in after climbing the volcano.

Apart from a small mart nearby there were limited facilities within walking distance, especially a lack of restaurants. There was a language barrier with the onsite staff which led to them thinking I had asked them to book a volcano trek for us, when I had actually told them we had already booked a trek for the following morning. I advise using google translate to avoid such confusion and a potential double-up.

On arrival there was some sort of party going on. Playing very loud music, staff seem to be part of it. Pool was really dirty, booked for 2 nights but left after 1st.
