Hassop Station Apartment on the Monsal Trail

The cottage was very well placed for the areas and walks we wanted to visit, which was a real highlight of our stay. We particularly enjoyed being so close to the Monsal Trail and ended up using it for walks most mornings and evenings. The cottage itself was nicely decorated and had a pleasant feel. The location directly on the main roundabout meant there was quite a lot of traffic noise at night. Thankfully, the good curtains and shutters did a good job of blocking most of this out.

There were a few areas where the cottage could be improved. The kitchen wasn’t particularly well equipped for self-catering, there was no pizza cutter or sieve, which were things we needed for meals we prepared during our four-night stay. There were also only a small number of tea and coffee sachets provided. Although the property allowed dogs, it didn’t feel particularly dog-friendly in practice. There was no bin provided for dog waste or any clear/signposted area for taking dogs outside. We ended up using the Monsal Trail for our morning and evening walks and disposing of the waste in the bins at the shop car park. There were also no clear instructions about recycling or where to put the rubbish. We eventually found the bins ourselves, but they were already overflowing with general waste and recycling, which was quite unpleasant. The bathroom also had a noticeable damp smell. Unfortunately, the towels weren’t changed during our four-night stay, and the hair towel provided had holes in it. Parking was available, although the two spaces in the yard are extremely tight, so larger vehicles may find parking a little difficult. Alternative parking along the lane was better. Overall, we enjoyed the location and found it a great base for exploring the Peak District, but there were several practical and maintenance issues that could be addressed to make the property a more comfortable stay.

The surroundings , quiet and felt like you where miles away. Very handy for the monsel trail where you can hire various types of bikes. Excellent cafe a stones through from the accommodation. Good clear instructions received via email prior to arriving. Free car parking as well. Bakewell is approx 1.5 miles away. Open top tour buses stop very close to the property during the Summer months and Chatsworth house is around 10 minutes away in the car.

No Issues to what I didn't like about the property or location,

Nice place, good size, had everything

Pillows smelt of dampness, as though had been cleaned but not tried correctly . General smell of dampness, found a pair of dirty socks in the sofa, carpet very grubby, mattresses low quality and general feel that soft furnishings were a bit grubby.
