Excellent stay in a clean, comfy, cosy cottage, with stunning views!

The property is very clean, cosy and well equipped with everything needed for a great stay. Check in instructions and house manual very clear and useful. The beds are sooooo comfy and the views at the back of the house are stunning! Tea, coffee, milk, biscuits and firewood were all provided, which was a lovely surprise! Will be coming back again soon!

Overall we had a lovely stay, although we didn’t spend much time at the property as we explored the lakes

The views at the back of the house were lovely. The owner responded very quickly to fix the back gate as our dog could get out, underneath it. The log burner at the end of a walking day was wonderful. The property was spacious with plenty of crockery etc and the bed comfortable.

The property downstairs smelt a bit musty and damp. We booked a dog friendly property but we were not allowed to have the dog upstairs so we shut her in the kitchen at night. She is used to having the run of our home so she whined when we went upstairs and for a long time each night when we went to bed.

Beautiful location, very peaceful, exceeded expectations.

Spacious 3 bedroom house, well equipped and spotlessly clean. What an amazing view from the bathroom! Located in a small cul-de-sac in the village of Underbarrow. Walking distance to the Black Labrador pub which does really good food and a 15 minute drive to Kendal. Really enjoyed our stay, watching the rabbits in the garden whilst we had breakfast, very relaxing holiday and blessed with a week of dry weather,

Hillgarth Rocks...

The location was fantastic. Peaceful but near all necessary amenities. The views are just awesome. The kitchen was well equipped for our needs and the view while cooking added to the experience. The garden was awesome but we didn't get time to use it properly as we were out most of the time. I must mention the beds...they were just as comfortable as in our home. My wife mentioned this fact a number of times. The bed, linen and the duvets all added to the homely feel and helped to have a restful night's sleep.

We thought that there would be toiletries like soap and shampoo but there wasn't anything fresh. The soap in the bathroom was used. There was ample hand wash though. The lockbox for the key was a bit hard to find. A better instruction on where it was would be useful. Something I found out while in the property is that it is more modern than it shows in the website images. I had a feeling of a dated property going into it. But in reality it is a nice modern well decorated property with a retro feeling. A few better pics would do more justice to the property.

Breathtaking views from this tidy 3 bed holiday cottage

The property was very clean and well stocked with all the essentials. The hosts were very responsive when we contacted them prior to arrival. We have no need to contact them during our stay as we were very happy and had no problems. The property has a large garden, but the best thing about the place is the exceptional views across the hills opposite. There are walks on the doorstep through the delightful valley, and a really nice pub in walking distance (the black Labrador). I would recommend this cottage to anybody looking for a quiet stay in the Lake District. The house is in a small residential cul-de-sac. Generous offstreet parking for two cars.

A very comfortable place, well located and perfect for a peaceful retreat or base for walking

A very comfortable and clean place with an amazing view of the hills at the back and a sizeable garden. The location was perfect for us, quiet but within easy reach of everything we needed.

Getting the car in and out of the sloping drive took a bit of getting used to. Other than that, nothing could gave been better, except the weather! We were very happy there and the neighbours were friendly.

Comfortable house, great location

The house is comfortable, well kept and clean, in a quiet close on the edge of the village. Perfectly located for the South and central lakes. Nice pub a couple of minutes walk away. The garden is lovely and an absolute sun trap. Appreciated the coffee, tea and biscuits on arrival.

Loved the views from the back, with a large garden which the dog loved. Nice and quiet with extras such as travel cot and high chair, making it easier travelling with a 1 year old

Lake District is a great place to enjoy an active walking holiday. The Hilgarth holiday home was a good base for that purpose. Big thanks to the hosts for a fabulous preparation of the house and for being extremely helpful. We had a very relaxed time.

Book this place without hesitation!

We had a wonderful stay at Hillgarth. It was so comfortable and welcoming. It is self contained so felt safe during the pandemic. This house had everything we needed for a perfect stay- log fire for cosy evenings, fully equipped kitchen, board games, amazing views (especially from the bathroom!), comfortable beds and a big driveway. Hillgarth is set in a quiet town with rolling hills, so was peaceful and felt like a real escape. It is within easy reach of Windermere and other major lakes, plus near Kendall and the ferry/ boat trips. The owners were really helpful, answering all our questions promptly and providing ideas of things to do. The tea, milk and biscuits were also appreciated on arrival. We can’t recommend this place highly enough- book your stay without delay and enjoy Hillgarth as much as we did! 😁
