Good location for trip into Oxford

Good location. Pub had nice atmosphere and good pub food.

Clean, comfortable and welcoming stay

Staff were very helpful and friendly - we were Neil's first ever check-in and he did a good job. Room was clean and comfortable. Pub and restaurant areas are nice and cosy. Nice log fire. Modern renovation of the room and bathroom made this a comfortable stay. Free parking. Short walk (<10 minutes) to the John Radcliffe Hospital

Our bedroom window was next to light at the front of the building - could this be switched off late at night? Clearer instructions in the restaurant - we didn't receive menus and were unsure if it was table service or not.

A great place to stay

The pub is lovely set in a lovely quiet village with great transport links into Oxford. Parking great, bed so comfy, the room was very clean and the bathroom.

The only thing I can say that let it down was how cold the main pub was., could have done with fire bring lit or the heating on. Especially in the morning. And the net curtains in our room could have done with replacing as they were very tatty compared with the rest of the room. However didn't put me off and would stay again.

It was a lovely pub, great atmosphere and the menu was delicious, really nice well kept rooms.

I’d stay again

Location was good; positive and friendly staff, bar area was nice and the Camden Brewery Porter…excellent. The menu was fair and the food was good value and a fair quality. The room price I thought a little on the high side but there we are. It was popular and busy.

A lovely, cosy, clean place to stay!

This pub is lovely and cosy. Our room was clean and comfortable and we enjoyed a delicious full English breakfast in the morning. We were welcomed by Abi who was friendly, attentive and professional. We really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely recommend this place to stay. Easy walk to the bus stop to get into Oxford.

A little hidden gem.

Really comfortable homely feel. Very comfy beds and pillows. The staff are amazing! Friendly, interactive, engaging and made it a fun evening.

Lovely stay in quiet village pub

This B&B is above a lovely pub with great food. The staff that welcomed us were very friendly and helpful. They took us up to our room, which was lovely. Very clean and modern. The bed was super comfortable and the bedsheets really soft. Breakfast the next day was also good - all made to order. There is parking just outside the pub for guests as well/. The area is very quiet and safe - its like a village but attached to the main town. a very comfortable stay, would deffo stay again.

Hotel (room and restaurant) needs some maintenance. Windows in room 4 didn’t close so very cold at night. Restaurant staff didn’t seem to know what to do.

A relaxing stay in a lovely hotel in a quiet but central location.

We had a very comfortable bed and a clean room. Food was delicious.

Disappointing Stay Despite Good Location

The hotel is in a good location, and some of the staff were friendly and helpful, particularly when it came to advice on travel.

Unfortunately, our stay was not up to standard. The room was not properly cleaned — we found hair in the shower — and overall it felt quite sparse. The bed was small and uncomfortable, and certainly not what I expected for the price. We had one of the worst nights' sleep due to constant flickering lights from the temperature control panel and smoke alarm, which kept us awake throughout the night. Breakfast was disappointing as the options were limited, and neither my partner nor I received what we ordered. Overall, we didn’t enjoy the experience and won’t be returning.

A place to return to! :)

The hosts were super kind and welcoming. The room and bathroom was spacious and clean. We could park our car on the premisis and easy take the bus to Oxford. It was a nice quiet neighbourhood. You can also eat in the pub! It's a place to return to!

A very pleasant stay at the Black Boy.

The staff were pleasant and helpful, the breakfasts were very good, room comfortable. Overall, a very pleasant experience.

If you want to go to bed earlier in the evening, you may have to wait for the noise from the outdoor pub patrons to die down, at least during the warmer weather. By 11 pm it was nice and quiet, however.

A lovely pub and hotel, we really enjoyed our stay.

The bedroom was a good size, and the bed really comfortable. The pub is in a great location and we had a lovely dinner there too. A special mention to Cathleen who was incredibly helpful and made our stay very memorable. We will be back.

Oxford Stay

The room was clean, modern, and well maintained. The facilities within the room were good. The bed was very comfortable, even though it was not a king-size as expected. The food in the restaurant was lovely, both the breakfast and dinner that we had and the environment in the restaurant and bar area was welcoming and comfortable. The staff were friendly and welcoming when we arrived and were very helpful throughout our stay. The location was lovely, and it was excellent for easy access into Oxford City

The room (5) was advertised as a king room, and it was definitely not a king-sized room. We were with relatives on our trip, who were in the room next door (4), which was a king-sized room, and we had both paid the same through booking.com, so we were disappointed, due to the expectation of having a decent sized room for the money paid, I did inform the staff of this, so they were aware.

Great place to stay in Oxford.

The hotel is a short taxi/uber ride into the centre of Oxford. There was parking outside, so you could leave your car there while you explored the area. We had a room out the back and over looking the garden bar, which luckily was quiet the night we were there. Bed comfy and everything nice and clean. The staff were great and the food was delicious.

The room was dark because it had trees quite close (nice to look through), made more dark as the walls were mid grey and floors and curtains dark grey. Would have been easy to make brighter with white walls.

Lovely stay

Lovely stay at very friendly pub well located for local amenities and only short cab/bus ride from oxford centre. Rooms clean, spacious and well thought out. Breakfast was great, variety of options. Staff really friendly.

Minor thing, but as it was quite a warm weekend it would have been better if a larger pedestal fan was offered (we ended up balancing the small fan provided on a chair and book) but we appreciated that there was a fan in the first place.

Great pub, with very good food, ideally located for travelling into Oxford on public transport

A great pub in a very good location for popping into Oxford on the bus, with bus stops about an 8 minute walk away. We had a very good breakfast on two mornings an equally good meal in the restaurant one evening. Also there's parking space for several cars, which is a very big plus point as parking is limited nearby.

The pub is in old Headington, where the buildings are fab looking as they are quite an age, but that means they have single glazed windows - so if you're a light sleeper like me, take ear plugs.
