Excellent clean apartment in a great location, close to the city centre and rail station. We received a very warm welcome on arrival when we were handed the keys.

Location excellent, kitchen well stocked, good bathrooms

Floors were dirty. Told not to change thermostat in the welcome file, however the apartment felt chilly and we could not understand how to change thermostat since the only instructions provided were to not change it. Only having one key was not convenient , when you need the key to enter and exit the apartment building. Door does not lock automatically behind you so you also need the key to lock the apartment. Where the bins are located is a long way from the apartment - not convenient. It is good to have a car park space but again, there is no loading space in front of the property so we had to carry all of our belongings for a weekend quite a long way from the car park to the entrance of the building. This was difficult (impossible) with 2 small children.

The size of the appartment is good, and the location is excellent for getting into York and back. The appartment quality is good, we didn't suffer from any sound issues.

On arrival in the apparement on a freezing February half term we were met with a cold appartment. After spending an hour trying fruitlessly to get the central heating to come on, I was told by Stays York that the owners have fixed the central heating to 14 degrees. FOURTEEN degrees, in February. There are individual electric heaters in each room, so we had to use them to heat the appartment. After a day the appartment was warm enough, but it is really not acceptable to rent out an appartment for such a high price and not even stick the heating on for people when they arrive. The appartment block is extremely cold and soulless, with a huge empty atrium. Second issue, the Wifi is terrible. I reset the router, and speed tested it throughout our stay; it measured between 2 and 6 Mbps download, 1 Mbps upload. There was no evidence that there was an issue with the router, I believe the owners have simply elected to pay for the very worst service they can find. The pattern of stinginess starts to emerge: the complimentary tea, milk etc was two UHT milk packets and two tiny packets of sugar and a few teabags. For £1 I bought a kilo of sugar and left it in the appartment; it really isn't hard to provide a decent supply of consumables for a nice appartment like this. My bed was too soft and gave me back pain, and the other bed is noisy when you move in any way. There is a thrid bed which has very lumpy mattress springs. Honestly, the appartment is in a great location and has the potential to be a top quality destination, but to be met with a locked thermostat set to 14 degrees in a freezing February half term after paying £650 is just not acceptable. If the owners were less stingy in the way they approach this appartment they could be getting 9 or 10 ratings.
