A charming stay in a picturesque mountain village with an unforgettable fine dining experience.

I chose this hotel as a convenient stopover on my journey from Italy to Holland, and it turned out to be a delightful surprise. Nestled in a tiny, historic, and idyllic mountain town, the location is truly picturesque — like something out of a storybook. The hotel itself is housed in an older building, full of charm and character, with details that reflect its long-standing history. The rooms are decorated with vibrant, lively prints that might be a bit bold for some tastes, but I found them wonderfully artistic and full of personality. They added a unique flair to the overall experience. Just outside, you can take a beautiful walk through the winding streets of the village and follow a path up the mountain — the views along the way are stunning and well worth the effort. Conveniently, there’s a lift down the mountain located right next to the hotel. I didn’t use it myself, but it’s a great option for those who prefer not to take the car. The staff were exceptionally kind and welcoming, adding a warm and personal touch to the stay. The highlight, however, was the hotel’s restaurant. We opted for the five-course chef’s menu and it was nothing short of magnificent — a true fine dining experience with beautifully presented dishes and rich, balanced flavors. It was the perfect end to a memorable stay.

The bathroom could use some modernization, especially in the room I stayed in, which still had a shower curtain.

This property exudes old world charm, and the views are spectacular. The drive up the mountain to the hotel is a little bit shaky because of the narrow road and hairpin turns, but that’s part of the charm. Situated in a small village atop Santa Maria del Monte whose main focal point is a magnificent UNESCO recognized church covered with frescoes, statues and mosaics. One can spend the day exploring the history, streets and alleys of the village. And the majestic views from the hotel are stunning! Now, the Hotel restaurant - simply amazing! We had an “eight thoughts of the chef” experience that featured eight separate courses of divine creativity , superb presentation, attentive service and exquisite dining. The meal was magnificent and could have been better ONLY if it had been warm enough to dine al fresco. The decision to stay here was spur of the moment, and it was truly the highlight of our journey. we highly recommend Hotel Colonne!

Beautiful 19th century style hotel in a beautiful location overlooking the Varese lake. Lots of charm, great welcome, decent breakfast. Lush surroundings great for walks. Fantastic spacious balcony with splendid view.

No air conditioning in the room. There was a nice breeze with the windows open but one can imagine it could be a little hot in the middle of the summer

We reserved with half-board and the restaurant did not disappoint! Dinners were absolutely amazing with local and fresh ingredients. The rooms are comfortable and the view exquisite.

Un hôtel plein de charme mais qui mériterait un rafraîchissement

Hôtel avec beaucoup de charme, resté "dans son jus", ce qui peut plaire à ceux qui recherchent une atmosphère authentique et un certain cachet ancien. La vue depuis la terrasse est tout simplement exceptionnelle et reste le vrai point fort du séjour. En résumé : une belle adresse pour le cadre et l'authenticité, à condition de ne pas être trop exigeant sur le confort et les prestations.

l’ensemble est vétuste et mal entretenu. La propreté n’est pas toujours au rendez-vous, et le confort est très sommaire. Point particulièrement gênant : la salle de bain est située à l’étage supérieur de la chambre, ce qui oblige à emprunter un escalier étroit, peu sécurisé, notamment la nuit pour aller aux toilettes. Un vrai risque pour les personnes âgées ou moins mobiles. Enfin, le petit déjeuner, vanté comme "exceptionnel", est en réalité très basique et sans surprise. Un lieu au fort potentiel, mais qui nécessite de vrais efforts pour répondre aux attentes d’aujourd'hui.

Leuk hotel op een schitterend lokatie, verdiend wel een opknapbeurt. Was overigens wel schoon.

Ontbijt was prima, niet overdadig maar voldoende. Koffie was niet lekker, zijn we niet gewend in Italië.

Restaurant, eten was prima bediening was slecht en ongeïnteresseerd. Ze hingen in de keuken om grappen te maken met de kok. Na 20 minuten nog geen drankje. Tijdens eten niet langskomen om te vragen of het smaakt of we nog wat willen. Mijn vriendin had graag een wijntje bij het eten genuttigd, dat is niet gelukt. Ober was totaal niet geïnteresseerd in ons.
