Friendly and small hotel in a small spa town. Excellent restaurant for evening meals with good food at a reasonable price.

There was no air-conditioning so we sweltered during the heatwave that coincided with our stay. Breakfast was very limited and unexciting. Rooms look dated.

The location

The hotel was run down and dated. We arrived on Sunday afternoon and the reception closed until Tuesday with no one on n reception for questions or information. The restaurant was also closed until Tuesday evening.

No hot water in the evening. Would have liked a kettle etc.

Hotel completely shut had 2 emails welcoming us for 2pm. No staff & locked up til 5pm. Called emergency number - no help.Eventually a kitchen member came out & allowed us in. Much later a waiter said they sent email with access code this was sent around 10am. We left home 4.30am! Also smell of cooking permeated up to bedrooms on 2nd floor most unpleasant. Have stayed here previously and standard has certainly dropped.No smoke alarm evident in room

The food in the restaurant was very good.

I booked a "superior" room as I had done last year and it was lovely. However, the room my husband and I got was inferior. Worse than a standard room (as my friends had one last year so I know). I complained but was told "every room is different". Huh. The visit I made last year was peppered with annoyances eg my car was towed away from a parking place around the corner from the hotel where I was actually advised to park!). Also we were attending a party and so got back very late but was not given a code (or indeed told we had to have one) so had to shout ourselves back into the hotel, with a guest having to let us in, in the end! I decided to forgive these irritations though as I liked the hotel despite them and wanted to show my husband a traditional French hotel for our wedding anniversary. I was very disappointed with the room (it really was awful: a sort of triangle of a shape so you struggled to get past the bed if on the wrong side, awful shower and ugly decor). Also, last year we were given a lovely cappuccino with our breakfast but when I asked for one this year I was told a very firm "no"! Also, when my husband was asked whether he wanted tea or coffee and he replied "coffee please", the waitress said "yes, it's over there". Actually that was pretty funny and I've gone on too much, sorry. But you did ask!
