I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The location is excellent—right in the downtown area, making it very convenient to walk around and explore the city. The room was spacious and clean, which made the stay very comfortable. The staff were also friendly and welcoming.

Never again. We felt cheated

We have stayed at Coopmanhuijs before and looked very much forward stay there again for 3 nights. We booked a standard double room long time in advance based on the information from the hotel's and Booking.com's websites. It proved to be a huge disappointment. We felt cheated. The room we were allocated on the ground floor (room 15, which we started to refer to as Cell 15), was tiny and claustrophopbic with a narrow bed. No sleep during night. We reported this to the receptionist in the morning, but no alternative rooms were available. We considerd to leave and return to our home in Cape Town, but decided to stay for another night since we also had booked lunch at a wine estate. Again the same, no sleep and a feeling of being cheated. The room reminded us of cheap places we stayed in Southern Europe when we were students and travelled on a scarce budget. Fortunately, when we told the reception that we wanted to leave and not risk our physical and mental health anymore, the reception found a new room for us upstairs (room 17), which fulfilled our expectations for our third and last night. In spite of supernice, friendly and helpful staff, and an excellent kitchen, we cannot, unfortunately, recommend Coopmanhuijs for anyone, and we will not return to this hotel. The lovely town Stellenbosch deserves better. We have visited the town many times, and will certainly return, but next time we will find a better place to stay.

Wonderful historical hotel loads of charm but needs refurbishment

Beautifully set in main shopping hub and historical stellenbosch; front porch is historical and eating dinner there is a must. Ambience amazing. The breakfasts served in conservatory or swimming pool area are excellent. Staff are friendly and attentive. The bathroom was spacious. Bedding clean & comfey the valet parking in such a tight area was first class.

The room we stayed in was tight . We feel that the furnishings and decorations are tired. The hotel while historical needs a fresh refurbishment . The tv was small and tucked away in the upper right. It was very noisy with every sound heard in our room. Given the prices we paid this was not value for money.

A real life experience in hospitality at the highest standards.

The location was perfect and the hotel is soaked in history dating back to 1713! The entire team made every effort to make our stay memorable and exceptionally successfully so. No request was not fulfilled! It was excellent in all regards. And Helena’s Restaurant for a fine dining experience certainly is an exceptional experience in Stellenbosch. Not a single negative comment is justified!

NOT 5 STAR SRANDARD

Staff were friendly and location was good.

I chose a luxury room - was right on the road with a lot of road noise ! Noise from kitchen late into the night and while I was bathing, big, black scum came up from the drain and floated in my bath water, was disgusting-I had to jump out of the bath halfway through my bathing and when I reported it the next morning, the reception guy just apologized and although I stayed another night and I refused to stay in the same room, they moved me to a smaller downgraded room!!! Rooms very old - not 5 Star by my stsndards!!

Our room (number 2) was above the kitchen/restaurant and, because of that, we woke up everyday with toast and omelette smell and went to sleep with food smell too. If it disturbs you, ask a room more far from kitchen.

Welcoming place to stay after a long flight in the heart of Stellenbosch

The location is minutes from the airport, and right in the town of Stellenbosch with plenty of shops and restaurants close by. The rooms and facilities were lovely, and the bar/restaurant on property is a wonderful place to wind down and have a nice meal after a long flight. Included breakfast was stellar and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful.

Amazing stay at the heart of Stellenbosch.

Amazing and very comfortable option right at the heart of Stellenbosch. Employees are very attentive and helpful. The bathroom has an underfloor heating that is amazing. Breakfast is delicious. Location is great, you can get to the main locations in Stellenbosch easily.

The only thing I can say is that the lift is slow, very slow. But that is absolutely NOT a problem.

Nice stay in a beautiful town

We had a lovely stay at the hotel. The lady at reception was incredibly friendly and welcoming. She even allowed us to check in early in the morning, which was a huge help since my husband had a biking trip planned for that day. Our room was spacious and well-equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. I also visited the spa for a manicure, pedicure, and massage, and I was very pleased with the experience. The staff member was both professional and warm, and I truly enjoyed my time there. Breakfast was delicious, with a nice variety of options to choose from. The hotel is located right in the heart of Stellenbosch, which is perfect, everything is just steps away. The valet parking service was also a great convenience, especially if you're arriving by car.
