Nice location and staff for our short break in Ludlow.

Good location by the river. Good parking. Nice cozy feel in the bar / lounge area and restaurant. Restaurant has nice view of the river. Evening meal food was OK. Breakfast was very good. Small bedroom with small en-suite but adequate for our 1 night stay. Good coffee machine in the room with drinking water and coffee/tea/biscuits. TV. Very good staff and service. Very helpful.

Minor points only. Mattress was very firm (for us) and the double bed felt small. Access to the shower cubical would be a challenge for any “portly” person.

Great breakfasts, great views...not great for room!

Excellent breakfast, with nice views in an ideal and historical location on Ludford Bridge, scene of the 1459 Wars of the Roses confrontation. Good range of local ales too at the bar.

This is the second time we have stayed at the Charlton - but in truth, feel the first time was better for a number of reasons. This time, the room was quite small - not an issue in itself, but the bathroom an absolute squeeze! Anybody on the 'big' side would have real difficulties getting in and out of the shower - the partition only partially opening. Everything is cramped and flimsy. The car park was full (got one remaining space) which whilst an indicator of the Charlton's popularity, maybe consider a reservation priority for guests over those just driving in for lunch. What could clearly be improved was the mud bath of the car park - why not tarmac? Didn't eat this time at the Charlton in the evening - as only slots available were too early for us. However, the sister pub, the Church Inn (Ludlow centre) is excellent - and guests at the Charlton are given a 10% discount card. I think all the above would have been ok, but just don't think rooms or experience warrants the £161 per night rate.

A very enjoyable weekend with good food and service

Nicely located to walk into Ludlow. Our room (11) was amazing. They said it was the best room in the hotel. It was more like a suite and extremely comfortable. It had a balcony/terrace where, in suitable weather, one could sit out overlooking the river.

Great, but overpriced, accommodation, great staff, and great location.

The location next to the river, but only a short walk from the town was excellent. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable.

The partridge I had for the evening meal was overcooked, dry and very, very tough. There was no point sending it back that would have meant my wife ate on her own and then I would have eaten on my own and on her birthday I didn’t want that to happen.

The location was a perfect base from which to explore Ludlow and the surrounds. The hotel had a helpful walking suggestion that focused on nature, history and views. This was very helpful initial orientation. The rooms were clean and recently renovated. The service in the restaurant was attentive and the food good.

Cosy, clean and excellent breakfast with friendly/attentive staff in a great location.

In the bathroom of Cressida there were a few tiles missing and some mould/holes needing repair. The lady who checked us into Cressida seemed slightly over stressed and wasn’t clear about the room location at first which caused some difficulty. Also the hand held shower had a leak, reducing water pressure and outside the bedroom window the light was intrusive/too bright throughout the night .

Disappointing stay

Good position for getting into the town and trips out. Staff very friendly and helpful when you could find them. Food and service in restaurant, very good.

On arrival, at 12.30, there was no one manning reception, so wandered around the restaurant and bar until we found staff. And this was how it was. You wandered around until you could find someone. You could not add bar drinks or restaurant bills, to your final bill; which seemed odd. In the bedroom, there was no information or a greeting pack. There were items in the room with no instructions, and only with 30 minutes of trial and error, made usable- TV required re booting and retuning; coffee machine good once you figured out how it worked; as with the air conditioning unit. When I booked, I did mention it was an anniversary trip, but was unable to book a larger room. The room was disappointing.

Good location and food but disappointing accommodation

The catering was very good, lunch and dinner with interesting menus and good breakfast choices. The riverside location is a great draw, with easy access to the beautiful town of Ludlow.

Our bedroom was tiny. The two single beds were so narrow they were like children’s beds. The heat from the small fridge made the room like a sauna (and it could not be switched off). At night the window (single glazed) had to be shut because of the noise from the busy road adjacent.

Relaxing and luxurious stay in a beautiful location with superb food !

We received a very warm welcome, our room was spotless, comfortable and well equipped. A table for dinner had been reserved for us which was very thoughtful and we enjoyed a wonderful meal that evening. The standard of cooking was superb, catering well for vegetarians. Delicious and beautifully presented, locally sourced food. Breakfast was equally good and we loved being able to watch the birds on the river. All the staff were so lovely, nothing was too much trouble. We loved our room with a view of the river and its own private seating area. Great location with a short walk into Ludlow. Would highly recommend !
