Location was perfect, a short walk from the town centre
The shower room needs updating and fresh sealant is needed, no shower gel available and even had to ask for towels as none were in the room. The bed however was simply terrible, you could feel every spring in the mattress and sleep was therefore not good at all.

Historically, warm and comfortable, good location with only 10 minute walk to town centre. Nice bar, open fire , decent local ales, tasty menu

Nothing apart from location
The property and rooms look nothing like the photos. The room was by far the worst I have stayed in. Noise from room next door TV loud until 1.20am and then 6.05 am. You can here every move people make . £120 is a total rip off. Told we had to hand key in and be back by 11pm. These are so called fire rules. We complained they said sorry but reality is you are advertising a poor pub hotel

Decor needs re- doing .

Do not allow dogs in rooms.

Location
Dreadful bed and pillows come on guys, pillows are not expensive. No shower gel, don’t even think about shampoo or conditioner! Only one towel each. Paper thin walls, talking, coughing and snoring audible from next door all night 🤯 Didn’t dare risk taking breakfast or any other meals.

Nothing I didn’t like

quirkiness of a building, couldn’t fault a thing, lovely welcome, warm and comfy rooms, had a best breakfast in a long time, 100% stay here again, Well done to each and everyone working here.

Virtually everything! Great location in a beautiful town. Just outside the old gate with an easy walk both into town and down to the river. Pub was light and bright, with helpful staff and fresh furnishings. To find such a place, in a town such as this, was excellent. Great value; great place. Would definitely stay again.
The sound of fun coming from the bar was a little noisy, but... it was a quiz night, near to Christmas, so not unexpected.

The bedroom was lovely, nice and warm all the time, quiet, very comfy bed, good bathroom attached. The pub is in a good location - up through the arch to the Buttercross, or sideways across the frontage to Old Street.

Loved the location. Perfect spot for sight seeing, restaurants and shops. Evenings by the log fire and everyone is so friendly there.
The weather was cold, however that's on me and at least it didn't rain. Lol

Didn't have breakfast as the chef was ill. Evening meal of steak and chips was okay! Generally the public areas were pleasant.
Our room desperately needs redecorating and updating to modern standards.

Lovely old building in great central location. Nice atmosphere in bar (despite being told off by female staff member about our dog sitting on my coat on the bench- appreciate that this is the policy but didn’t need to be ‘told off’ in such a rude way). V tasty burger & chips.
Our bedroom (no 1) had no charm at all. I would be embarrassed to let this room out to paying customers as it hasn’t been up-graded since the 60’s/70’s (and done cheaply and sloppily at that time); furniture & furnishings looked as if they had come from a house clearance, stained carpet, horrible shower room with feeble electric shower; TV at right angle to bed so hard to watch from bed; no glasses; lots of notices in rooms about what you couldn’t do with no feeling of being a welcome guest. A loud noise like a heavy duty fan outside window, every 20 mins and lasting a few minutes each time went on until the early hours - v disrupted sleep. Disappointed that in spite of it being a cold evening, the log fire in the lounge wasn’t lit. Parking on street outside pub is expensive. Didn’t appreciate being told so late in the day that there was no breakfast service following morning as staff member ill.

The bedroom was warm and cosy , clean with a good size en-suite. The food was great and a lovely atmosphere in the bar . The staff were friendly and helpful, especially about where we could park and we also liked the fact it was dog friendly( although we didn’t have ours with us we will return with our dogs )
No onsite parking and payed street parking was only short term .

Breakfast was good, but annoyingly early. On a Sunday morning, breakfast hours were 8:00 - 8:45.
Move breakfast hours a little latter.
A 10am check-out time is unreasonably early for a weekend away.

Wasn’t warned kitchen would close at 7.45pm and no food available at 7.48pm
Noisy room, rap music then loud voices, all a bit worn and cramped

Old world service. Good interaction with customers
Nothing to dislike. Everything was clean I was served a drink in what I found was a dirty glass but that doesn’t detract from the overall view of the visit or the premises.

The location was good.
We booked this for a fundraiser who walked 232 miles on a prosthetic leg for a cancer charity.
I had notified the accommodation several times of this incredible man and what he was doing for our charity.
When he arrived he was told "you best hurry up if you want food" so Paul said "that's fine I was going to get a takeaway" and he was told he couldn't.
This man had just walked MILES and we were annoyed to hear that he was spoken to in this way.

Not a lot
Room very small and old fashioned, carpet thread bare. Could hear everything next door. Paid for breakfast with room, but kitchen was out of order. We had to pay for breakfast in another restaurant. We had to be back by 11.p.m or we would be locked out. Had to give key back at bar every time we left.

Location
Really good electric shower
Room 1 smelled of cigars…..bathroom even more so.
Price included breakfast….. but was told the following morning they were not going to be able to do breakfast for the 2 days we were staying… promised a refund… will not hold our breath.
Was unaware that there was an evening curfew due to the only entry to the bedrooms was via the main pub so no access available once the pub was shut…. Meaning have to wake the owners or staff to let people in.

Unfortunately the pub wasn't able to provide breakfast due to circumstances beyond there control but was compensated
I can't find anything I would change

Location great. Breakfast very good plenty to eat and tea, coffee. Bar busy, friendly and good choice of ales.
When I booked paid highest room amount and surprised by the room. Beds and linen good. The cupboards in poor condition unable to open drawers. Main complaint was the smell of chip fat in the toilet/shower. Kitchen had an extraction system but must be leaking into the shower. The fan in toilet was unable to remove the fumes as looked blocked with fluff. Our clothes still smell of chip fat.

Was a lovely old building with plenty of character and from the moment we arrived we were made very welcome. The full English breakfast was cooked to perfection and we had 2 evening meals there as well. The fillet steak was beautiful and the desserts were so scrumptious and really well presented. The owners Steve and Karen were so friendly as was the barmaid Angie and the housekeeper Lindsay. Nothing was too much trouble for any of them. We will definitely be going again. They told us of places of interest to go and see. It all made our stay so enjoyable.
We liked everything about it. No complaints whatsoever.
