The Old Hunting Lodge at The Talbot Inn

Full of character, had been themed as a hunting lodge. Room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Slept well. Great coffee machine and a fridge with fresh milk and water. Plenty of coat hangers which is not always the case. Modern bathroom with a decent shower

It’s not always staffed as such so check in was 4pm which is very inconvenient. I had to go straight to a function which started at three and then leave to drive to the hotel to check in before returning to the function. Had to register for car parking using a QR code on my phone or else there is a £100 fine. Because the signal was poor I had to join the hotel’s wifi first so all a bit of a faff. Had to identify my car on a little phone from an ANPR picture that was high up so no chance or reading the registration to make sure. It only lasts for 24 hours so if staying longer you have to repeat the process. Didn’t expect this at such a rural location. However, the lady on reception was very patient and helpful. The room itself was pleasant but smaller than expected as it was described as a deluxe king size. However, it had everything needed (apart from a box of tissues. No window in the bathroom but that’s just a personal preference. When checking out, just told to leave the key on the desk - no enquiry about if we had enjoyed our stay.

Good decor with lots of character, good value for money, good breakfast and lovely evening meal in the restaurant. Would certainly recommend
