Cheap and near centre of Portree
Instructed to take shoes off at door. I didn't think the sheets felt clean so slept on top of bed. Couldn't turn radiator down and my bed was butted up to it. Very impersonal place with paper thin walls

It was very nice and clean, very comfortable, Sergej and his wife are both such lovely and nice people, made my stay very enjoyable. As someone who lived on Skye and worked in hotels/hospitality here, and also stayed in B&B’s here before, I can confidently say it was my best experience. Thank you for your lovely hospitality, I’ll definitely be back!😊

Fully furnished kitchen with simple breakfast and condiments.
Room was a little too small & the private toilet was outside the room- a bit inconvenient if you were to visit it in the middle of the night.

The accommodation was clean, comfortable and well located. Sergei was friendly and helpful.
We were a bit disappointed with the breakfast. Some fruit and choice of bread would have been nice. Also there was no information provided on local things to do or places to eat.

The Old Captains Guest House was a home from home. The rooms were clean, fresh and thoughtfully equipped. The kitchen was a real bonus. Not only with breakfast needs but facilities to cook. This is more of a bonus on Skye as the restaurant’s have a hard time fitting all the visitors in. We visited in October - in the summer this facility would be even more needed.
Our host was lovely, giving just the right amount of attention.

From the moment we arrived, the host greeted us warmly and was very friendly. He gave us a helpful tour of the property, which we really appreciated and the beds were very comfortable. A lovely surprise was that, without us asking or paying for it, they offered us breakfast options, which we were very grateful for. Overall, we were very happy with our experience and would highly recommend this place.
The only downside we’d mention is that the walls are quite thin, so we can hear the other guests. If you're a heavy sleeper, this won't be an issue at all.

Proximity to town was great.
The home smelled musty. Right off the bat, the coffee machine had a message stating ‘cleaning required’ so we couldn’t use it.

Wonderful location as is in walking distance to city center. The staff, including the wee dog, were welcoming , friendly and accommodating! Rooms had plenty of space, bathrooms efficient and the kitchen facilities wonderful! We were able to stay an extra night thankfully, as Storm Amy disrupted the ferries.

Nothing, it was extremely overpriced for a room in a share house
We inadvertently left some personal items behind at the property & when we contacted the owner to make arrangements for these to be returned (which we were happy to pay for) were advised that the items had been disposed of.

We liked that breakfast options were included and that we had access to the kitchen and sitting room. It is also close to town and other amenities.
We did not enjoy the check in process. We could not get in the first two times we tried and then we had to contact the owner again to let us in personally. Travelling without a phone is not always the best idea.

The location was great—just a short 5-minute walk into town, which made things really convenient. The accommodation did what we needed it to do, and we appreciated being able to help ourselves in the morning to tea, coffee, cereals, toast, and various spreads.
We found the bathroom to be quite small, and there were a few stray hairs left behind, which was disappointing. The walls weren’t very soundproof, although luckily our neighbours were quiet. Not being able to use the kitchen after 8pm also felt a bit restrictive.
We went to look outside at the back of the property, as the back door was unlocked and there was no signage indicating it was off-limits. However, we were told we couldn’t be out there, which was confusing, especially as we weren’t informed about this on arrival. Some clearer communication would’ve been helpful.
The shoes-off rule indoors wasn’t ideal either, especially when you’re staying in shared accommodation.

My room and in particular the bed was very comfortable enabling a good night's sleep. There was free access to an extremely well equipped kitchen including a large fridge with 2x4 litre bottles of milk, white and brown bread with butter/jams, a range of teas all for guest use and two tables.
The guest house is sited in a quiet area on the edge of town which was only a 5 minute walk to the town centre square in Portree, with easy access to island buses which start and finish there. A baker's shop, Mackenzies, provided excellent quality freshly filled rolls and other savouries and cakes/hot drinks to take out making access to lunch-on-the-go very easy.

Great location, decent parking though could get tight with another guest. Free breakfast supplies was welcome.
Our room for a couple was too small, tight for space with nowhere to stow luggage. The walls were paper thin with noise disturbance. The bathroom was inadequate with no sundries nor place to leave our own toiletries.

There was no breakfast but you know this when you book, however the owned did provide complimentary cereals, bread/toast coffee etc. We thought it was a great clean room and had no negative comments at all. Recommended.
Nothing to dislike.

The WIFI
1 we were told to take off our shoes before we entered premises. We have NEVER been asked to do this Ever.
2 this wasn't a Guest House - It was a House Sit
3 the bedroom was very small as well as the ensuite.
As soon as you get out of bed and take 1 step - you are in the bathroom standing on a mat. From this one position on the mat, yoi can either sit on the loo, stand up - swivel around to wash your hands in the small sink (no bench to put toothpaste or toothbrushes on, OR step in the shower. Very cramped. They did have a heated rail for towels situated above the toilet on the wall. Hard to get to when leaning over a toilet bowl andcsystem. We were told that breakfast was included - reality was - there was cereal in the kitchen and milk in the fridge and you get it yiouself. When we did use the kitchen to make a cup of coffee and cup of hot chocolate - we were asked what we wanted. This made us feel uncomfortable. The owners live in this house andcI felt like we were being watched all the time.
3 When we arrived at the house '- we rang the bell and knocked on the door for quite a while before someone came to greet us.
4 When we parked our car in the parking bay - we had to park a touch over the white line because the bushes at the side were not trimmed back and the hire car would have got scratched and I would not have been able to get out of the hire car.but we were told that we had to move the car. We moved the car to another spot so more guests could get in but the next guests to park in our spot parked over the line as well for the same reason as us and they too were asked to move. This accommodation was way way overpriced for what they offer. My husband and I were quite appalled and would NEVER recommend the place to anyone. We have found quite a few other reviews with similar stories and I cannot express more to check out private reviews as booking.com has given this place a very good score. We were disgusted with the place.

Lounge and bright room
No place or room to put suitcases, no place to hang towels or put toiletries or toilet paper, thin pillows, continental breakfast offered but no juice Or fruit or brewed coffee or real butter or milk alternatives available. No one able to advise about area.

beds were comfortable and place was very clean. Svetlana was very nice and helpful.
Electricity working in our bathroom would have been wonderful!! and get rid of that coffee table in the room to make way for luggage that guests bring. Besides there was no electricity over there either for the hot water kettle that was on the coffee table. Waste of needed space. Also self-catering was something that was entirely new to us and all the guests we spoke to. Maybe more of an explanation on the website would be very helpful.

We had a fantastic stay at Old Captain Guest House. The room was spacious and well-equipped, the bed was super comfy, the Wi-Fi was strong, and the room itself was very warm and quiet. The kitchen had all the necessary amenities, including breakfast items (coffee, cereals, milk, etc.). A parking spot was provided. The location is fantastic - very close to the town centre. The host is very kind and helpful. 10/10 - highly recommended!

We had a great stay at this accommodation! The hosts were incredibly friendly, and it was clear that they put in a lot of effort to ensure their guests have a pleasant experience. When we experienced some noise disturbance from our neighbors, the host addressed the issue with them. Additionally, when we mentioned that the shower was a bit on the cold side, he tried calling a plumber to fix it.
A nice bonus was the complimentary breakfast, which added to the overall value of the stay. Compared to other accommodations in the area, this place is relatively affordable.
Although we didn't sleep well on the last night due to our noisy neighbors, the overall experience was very positive. We truly appreciated the hospitality and would definitely consider staying here again!

Location is great, only a short walk to the town centre
A slightly odd welcome with the order to remove our shoes at the door and to put some slippers on.
Furnishings are all a bit dated. A wardrobe or similar would be good to store clothes in rather than having to use the floor.
And please put some new curtains in room one - the current ones are not nearly big enough to cover the window, and even with the blind down, with a 2 foot gap in the curtains you get sunlight streaming in to the room very early indeed!

Excellent having a kitchen and sitting room available for everyone. Serge also provided cereal, toast and milk for breakfast every day. Thank you
Parking was difficult as the area was tight for so many cars.

Portree on Isle of Skye is beautiful.
This place is a boarding house. Tiny room. Little privacy. Should not be advertised as a hotel room!

Good location - 5 minute walk from Main Street. Good sized room and comfy bed. Smart TV. Tea and coffee facilities in room.
En-suite bathroom had only a sliding door that did not close properly which was not great for privacy. No hair dryer in room.
7.0 / 10.0
It is what it is--a couple of bedrooms in a house. But our room did have an in-suite bathroom and the water pressure was great. The beds were comfortable and we slept well. Nice and quiet. Parking was weird, but there's street parking right next to it 20 feet away. No breakfast or really anything like that, but again, it is what it is. We were only there one night and it served its purpose.
The limited check-in hours. But at least once you checked in, the host gave you a key to the front door to come and go so you could be out later. But on a big island like Isle of Skye, you had to plan around that 4 hour check-in window.

Very clean and comfortable and superbly quiet - we got a great night's sleep.
We were a little puzzled over breakfast arrangements - what in the fridge was for us to use other that the milk and cereal and did the other things (eg strawberries) belong to our hosts or to other guests? We are used to being asked to remove walking shoes in houses, but not obviously clean ordinary shoes.

The accommodation was a room in a house which was not the way it is advertised. With this in mind it was very over priced.
