Right by the train station, this was a perfect place to spend the night without worry or stress.
The communication even prior to my stay was fantastic, and from the moment I arrived I felt like I was well taken care of. The room was initially a little cold, being at the top of the building, but the helpful staff there was very persistent in making sure the radiator was fully functional before he left me to enjoy my evening. If the kind of service and hospitality I received when I stayed is commonplace then I can be sure that anyone staying here will feel similarly taken care of.
There wasn't any milk available for the tea, but this was a very minor thing and I'm sure if I asked they would have sorted it for me. The fact this is the only thing I can find fault with just goes to show that it was otherwise a great value and well accomodating place to stay.

Skalloween
The location was good
No way of locking the door, even though the rooms have " yale " type locks, the latch for locking the door had been removed. TV had a long crack on the screen, the TV remote was held together with sellotape. The pillows were filthy. The towels had a gungy smell.

Absolutely Nothing
The place was an absolute mess with Damp smell all over the accommodation damp and stained sheets broken door and damp stained floorboards in toilet occupier of the property said there was nothing wrong with it and still refused to refund and amount of the monies paid even though I was willing to pay for the 1st night of arrival and had to go and get accommodation else where for the remaining 3 night DO NOT STAY HERE Can't even get a hold of anyone within bookings.com to make a claim as its all AI generated and thats more frustrating

LAST RESORT SALOON -
Location was OK, near the railway station, next door to a pub.....surprisingly the bed was comfortable, coffee/tea making facility was OK, TV reception was good. The gentleman who met us, shown us to our room and helpful and friendly enough. The room was more comfortable than expected, a few alteration, would make such a positive difference. All the people we met over the 2 days working in the town, were very friendly and helpful. Weatherspoon's was a good starting point to get your bearings around the town,
The accommodation frontage is terrible, no clear signage, the front of the accommodation is dirty poorly maintained, we were aware of the reviews prior to booking the accommodation, however due to 3 migrant hotels in the town has forced prices ups, reduced the selection of hotels for both tourists and workmen etc. Therefore this was definitely a last resort option for us. Inside the accommodation, the property is very tired, and needs some investment to bring it up to standard, such a shame, its a old building with lots of traditional features. The hotel definitely caters for contractors, I wouldn't bring my family to stay. The room was tired looking, no waste bin supplied, the TV is on the window sill, would be great if it was actually on the wall. the curtains were see through and ill fitting. I would remove the wardrobe and provide two bedside cabinets instead, possible a couple of coat hooks instead. The room wasn't on ensuite, the toilet was outside the room, the hand basin water only had a cold tap, that didn't work, and had spit from a previous user in the sink. The communal bathroom shower, only had cold water in the shower. Can't believe I actually paid £99 to stay here. Disappointed that Booking.com allow hotels to trade under there banner. I'm also disappointed that the council allow these places to have a license to operate. Very disappointed with Dumfries, some lovely building and quite a large town centre for a small town, However: like many other small town, very run down and neglected. such a shame.

An affordable place with charm
The location of this place was fantastic! Right next to the train station and only a short walk away from the shops in the town centre! The staff/host was very friendly and comforting, giving a phone number for if I need anything at all. He even recommended some places to eat whilst I'm there. The hospitality was truly wonderful, even offering my friend to stay in the room next to mine and giving her a late check out. The room itself was very quaint and charming, being on the top floor gave me a nice view from the window. The sink in the room was helpful for refilling my water bottle and having a place to clean my teeth etc. With the room came a clean towel and body soap for the shower (no shampoo, though, but I brought some with me anyways) I do recommend this place for travellers who are on a budget!
When I was checking in, I was greeted by two people who I assumed were the hosts. However, I quickly learnt that the host brought along a stranger he claimed to have just met. This stranger followed us as I was brought to my room. As a solo travelling female, this did unfortunately give me a bad first impression and I did feel unsafe whilst settling into my room. However, during my stay the host has been very kind to me which eased my discomfort. The main toilet wasn't working during my stay, so the host showed me to the other toilet instead. The shared bathroom didn't come with hand soap, I ended up buying a cheap bar of soap from Morrisons and leaving it there. The cleanliness of my room was questionable, I recall seeing stains on the bedding (mainly the pillow, everything else seemed fine) The wifi was down during my stay, however that wasn't a huge issue for me, and apparently the WiFi came back a day after my departure 😂
