Sigiriya Free View Tree House & Villa

Our stay at Free View Tree House & Villa was one of the highlights of our time in Sri Lanka. Rohan and his whole family are incredibly warm, kind and welcoming, and by the time we left it felt like we were saying goodbye to friends rather than simply checking out of accommodation. For the price, the villa itself was comfortable and spotlessly clean, with a large fridge/freezer in our room which was really useful. The setting is absolutely beautiful, tucked away amongst the jungle and surrounded by wildlife. We spotted so many birds around the villa, including peacocks, as well as frogs and lizards. Of course, being in the middle of nature means you may occasionally encounter an insect too – but that's part of the experience of staying somewhere this wonderfully wild rather than in a sterile hotel room. On our first evening we stayed for a delicious home-cooked dinner, and the traditional Sri Lankan breakfasts were a real highlight. Every morning there was something different to try, including pancakes, rotti and lavariya, alongside other dishes. It felt like being given a little introduction to Sri Lankan food each morning. Rohan's wife's family also helped to look after us during our stay and arranged a tuk tuk for our early trip to Sigiriya Lion Rock. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble. Even after we came back dusty from our safari, they managed to turn around a load of laundry incredibly quickly for us, which was very much appreciated when travelling as a family! Although you're surrounded by jungle and it feels wonderfully peaceful and tucked away, there are also lots of great places to eat within walking distance. Our favourite was Freedom Night Sigiriya – lovely food and such a nice atmosphere. And if you don't fancy the walk, just drop them a message and they'll happily send a tuk tuk to collect you, which made getting around really easy.

There was nothing we didn't like. There were a few ants in the bathroom but the villa is in the middle of the jungle, it is a very well run family run business so adjust your expectations accordingly and enjoy!!

Great location - restaurants 1 min walk away. Main stretch a pleasant 15 minute stroll. Air con made rooms lovely and cool. Owners couldn’t have been more helpful

We stayed here for two nights and the owners took care of us like their own family. We loved our stay here, and especially our kids. The location is good too - next to some great restaurants and close to the major attractions. Breakfast is highly recommended
