    I stayed here 16 years ago and the hotel and its staff are still A grade. The rooms are spacious compared to Japan room sizes, the location is bang in the middle, you can walk anywhere or take a cab for not more than 2000-3000 yen. The main akasaka market has the best restaurants and bars… they even gave us a 730 am check in when we landed at 5 am…. Superb hotel….

    We want to steer away from global brand for a change. The Okura was a good hotel group. We were pleasantly surprised by its quality and staffs. We truly recommend this hotel

    Despite the rating this is not a 5 star hotel by any standards. We stayed there for 5 nights and could not wait to get out of this dated establishment with rigid and rude staff. The list of complaints is numerous: - the most uncomfortable beds that we have ever slept in and we have travelled a lot. You can feel every spring in the mattress. The pillows are tuned and the blanket is paper thin. - due to the age of the property the plumbing is very poor and the toilet emits a sewage smell every time it is flushed - there is no coffee machine in the room, no ironing board and no iron - the staff is polite but very uncooperative. Their responses to all requests are very robotic. This list can go on but in conclusion, there is a Hilton Kyoto around the corner that is great whereas this property needs to be gutted, rebuilt and re-staffed.
