A disappointing and disgusting experience

The location

Our stay at Hotel Leonet from June 23 to June 27, 2025, was disappointing on several levels. At the time of booking, we were assured that secure parking for our motorcycles would be available. Upon arrival, this turned out to be false. We were directed to several parking garages that did not allow motorcycles, and it took us over 90 minutes to find a suitable spot on our own. Shortly after booking, we received multiple emails appearing to come from the hotel, which turned out to be phishing attempts. The hotel never issued any warning or follow-up about this, which we find extremely irresponsible. The check-in experience was chaotic. The receptionist spoke barely any English, was unhelpful, and kept interrupting the check-in to assist other guests or give directions. This left a disorganized and unwelcoming first impression. The condition of the room was unacceptable: mold on the walls, stained carpets, and in the corridors, visible bloodstains from squashed insects. The overall level of cleanliness was far below standard. The breakfast was minimal and poorly maintained — items that should have been cold, like cheese, were warm, and on one morning, there was no bread at all. To make matters worse, on our final day, we discovered bed bugs in the room. This is a serious health issue and completely inexcusable in any accommodation. Following our stay, we attempted to contact the hotel multiple times to report our experience and express our concerns. Unfortunately, we received no response whatsoever. The complete lack of follow-up or accountability further highlights the poor management and service. In summary, Hotel Leonet failed on every front — from false promises and lack of communication to poor hygiene and unresponsive customer service. We strongly advise against staying here.

Location

Booked a room with 3 beds. When we did the check in, the reception staff rudely and unapologetically informed us they didn’t have a 3 bed room available, so we would have to switch bedrooms the following day. The following day not only did they not actually have a 3 bed room available, but the other staff did not seem to know about the arrangement and was also rude about it. In the end, we ended up paying for a different service than what we booked. The shower does not have warm water, the facilities are old and unkept, and the walls are very thin.

The staff at the Rezeption was very unfriendly. Our bed didn’t even get changed in our 4 Day stay. A Water Bottle we hat just randomly vanished. The floor was dirty and we found a Tampon under our bed. The window looked like it would fall apart every second.

Loud and noisy teenage neighbors from the nearby a&o Hostel (late evenings into the night).

The bed was comfortable

I informed about my arrival in advance at 1pm, but hotel told that I should wait till 3pm, next day I’d like to checkout at 3pm, so they told I should +15€ more for late checkout. Found in the bathroom long hairs, water was not so hot when arrived and room was very cold, so I feel sick myself now.

I threw my money away.!

The Hungarian reservation lady of the hotel was polite and friendly.

The hotel carpets were very dirty and smelled bad. The corridors were very small and dark.

Feels like a hostel

Location is ok, if you like to walk, 20 mins walk from the Center of Cologne. Otherwise, the tram station is less than 5 mins walk but bear in mind that the tram will take over 8 mins to arrive and there is no much consistency of service. Liked the safety box free of charge.

Don't be lured in by the looks of the photos, single rooms are not big. The 1st room I had the first night (room 2): TV did not work, shower overflown when taking a shower, shower curtain got soaked, very small room, windows lead to the parking lot and rubbish bins literally outside the window, could not open the window in fear that anyone getting into the room. Very noisy too. Requested a new room on 2nd night, TV worked but no channels in other languages, room was a bit bigger but nothing like the photos. Bathroom was much better (room 115). You can opt not to have your room clean in exchange for a bottle of water (small bottle). Bed mattress are very uncomfortable but good heating, no extra blankets or pillows provided. Take slippers and shower sandals if you want to walk around the room, I noticed that the carpet was not clean. Also, cannot have the curtains open, windows are exposed and feels like people can see you. Traveler tip: DO not travel to Cologne at night unless you have been there before, streets are not well lit, stations are empty, not many people around in case you need help, train from airport is convenient but at night expect to wait over 20mins for one to take you to the city center. Pay a bit more and stay in the center. For a sort of cheap and convenient stay this is the place.
