Very nice and very spacious bedroom with a riverview, very clean and excellent location for an excellent price.
The restaurant/bar area could have been better, not always someone available at the bar, and menu was not particularly exciting.

The beds superb nice decor and clean throughout
The breakfast was a little basic
7.0 / 10.0
The room was cold and no thermostat to regulate the temperature. I also couldn't find a heater in the room.
There was no water to drink as well, at least one bottle of water to welcome a guest.

Convenient location, car parking on site, good bathroom, quiet, nicely furnished room, very good value for money, nice lobby
The tap was falling off the sink, confusing layout and no signs for staircases

Didn’t have no where to hang out clothes the room was tiny the lighting was terrible unable to sit down and dry my hair . The plug in the sink wouldn’t come out .did try to upgrade as we have stayed before but obviously the hotel was full

Staff were polite and food was good
Heating unit on all night outside a window that you couldn’t shut - very noisy, they did offer me a room change but this was 11.45 at night so not acceptable

Well placed and convenient for city centre
The confusing lay out breakfast on first floor but only one lift stopped there. No signage on stairs to first floor. Room looking tired and cold. Holes in the walls where doors handles had punched through. Lack of obvious signage to the car park from the reception. Staff not answer the remote door opening from car park to the hotel. Heating was a AC unit that couldn’t be adjusted on the controller. Shower got hot and cold without any further input. Two different night the fire alarm went off. No obvious signage to the restaurant.

Clean comfortable let me check in early when my meeting was cancelled.
Didn't tell me I was being charged for the early check in!
My request for an accessible room seem to have been lost in translation.
I was placed next to a lift which was not necessary on the ground floor but a long way from reception and other facilities.
The place is a little bleak and understaffed.

Room pleasant spacious; bed very comfortable. Staff also very helpful.
Short on drawer space for clothes. Poor location of kettle and sundries beneath clothes hanging space. Moved it to dressing table which then compromised dressing table space.

Breakfast waiting around for different foods meant breakfast cold when actually sat down eat

It was a basic room that met my needs for sleep and somewhere to stay while visiting Bedford for a couple of nights.
Breakfast served it's purpose. The staff were lovely and friendly and great coffee!
I didn't like that I paid for a seperate room when you may aswell knock the wall down to next door, and had us in together. I didn't dare cough in case I interrupted their conversations. I couldn't work out what sort of paper is used to make those adjurning walls but i'm sure I could have whispered a question to next door, and they would have answered.
The shower screen to shower head ratio confused me. Why is the shower head halfway across the ceiling yet the screen is only a quarter one? It defeats the purpose of a shower screen.
I completely agree with doors being shut after hours, and phoning to be let in. Safety and all that. But would be a good idea if someone answered that phone to let me in, so I don't look like i'm hovering around a hotel entrance scoping the place out. When I was finally let in, all I got was "I was on my break" .

Interior was clean.
Very poor lighting in the bedroom, no main light. Room is therefore very gloomy, especially at night. The only decent light was in the bathroom which had very little space for toiletries, make up etc.
Wash hand basin tap leaked water everywhere and flooded onto the floor on the right hand side of sink, it also spurted out of the front of the basin onto clothing. Very irritating.
Two nights stay, but would not stay longer because of very poor clothing storage, had to leave majority of items in the case.

When we arrived, our room was quite small and without a bath, upon visiting reception, they immediately changed our room to a room with a bath, one of only four rooms which have the facility. Unfortunately, the aircon was broken, however the staff told us this beforehand. The staff were attentive and when we asked for a further heater for our room, It was delivered immediately!!! When we went for breakfast, we filled in an order form, and the breakfast was 'cooked fresh', unfortunately It was not, however, we had left It a little late on arrival, none the less the breakfast was cold, not cooked fresh. Clare, was so friendly, couldn't do enough for us, 'It was appreciated'. The reason we booked the room, was the Mercure was In close proximity to the dealership we had just ordered our new car, for collection, It is however central to the railway stations, easy access for anyone wanting to visit friends, family etc.
I can't say in all honesty there was much to dislike about this hotel, in my honest opinion, this place would benefit from a 'Thorough Revamp', decor, carpets etc, It looks in all fairness, 'Tired'. I think if there was an interior revamp, the 'Mercure' could demand double the rates they are receiving now and could become 'The Place to stay In Bedford'. Just a 'Little TLC' and It would make all the difference!!! Overall, as it is, without question the Mercure is great value for your money.

Size of the rooms
First room I stayed in was a suite of which the curtains at the entrance were missing so I couldn’t make the room dark enough to sleep properly. When brought up with reception there was nothing from them.

The room was lovely and had great views over Bedford from the 8th floor.
They provided take out cups for coffee at breakfast.
There was one robe and one instant coffee each with minimal milk.
Breakfast was probably the worst I have ever had, a wait for eggs then a wait for sausage.
10.0 / 10.0
It was a good hotel, I think it has a really good value for its price.
The heating is based on AC so you have to keep it open most of the time.
The shower is smaller than expected and you'd have issues if you are taller than 190cm. Also it was leaky and the water would easily end up on the floor

Overall I would say this is average at best. Paid extra for the panoramic room, not worth it. £56 for a basic room is probably a good deal and for only 5 mins walk away from where we needed to be the location is great but the rooms are average at best. The bed was clean and comfortable atleast.
Where do I start, the panoramic view window was just a double length window high up, which continually got misted by the heating and moisture in the room so couldn't even see out. The glasses for the complimentary drinks were disgusting. The TV had hardly any channels and zero smart features, plus the HDMI ports locked off so couldn't even use my laptop on the TV. Overall it was passable for 1 night but maybe just buy a regular room.

A 2-day stay here - wonderful setting right alongside the river with amazing riverside walks and just across the bridge from the town centre and all the shops and restaurants. Friendly professional staff and a clean and comfortable room.
The car parking situation was challenging - I paid for 2 nights but when I returned to the car park on the 2nd day the car park was full so your space apparently isn't reserved for you. I had to park elsewhere and pay more (the fee for my 2nd day of parking was returned by the hotel)

All good except the room view. I requested a river view room from the date of booking and put a note on my booking and requested couple of time before my arrival and the answer was too early but during my check in process I was not given a river view room. not happy with this.

The size of room was great and it had a large mirror and many lighting options. Check out at 12pm which is great
Bathroom was cold probably because of the window. Room took ages to heat up with the air con heater

This was a family gathering as we all live around the country. We had 4 rooms booked over the weekend.
There were various Christmas parties booked at the hotel too, so we were very kindly accommodated for meals in the breakfast restaurant, where there was space for our small children to play and spend time, it was quiet, so we could talk/hear. Also we had a bottle of prosecco on the house, mince pies and ginger bread biscuits. This was due to there being no space in the restaurant and so our table bookings were declined. The manager contacted me when they realised this and resolved the situation. It was lovely of them to make special arrangements and go out of their way to make us so welcome. The rooms were clean and well equipped and the staff were friendly and helpful, despite being a bit overstretched.
The coffee wasn't great at breakfast and Sunday morning, most people arrived for breakfast at 10am, quite predictable, being sunday, following large Christmas parties the night before. Only 2 members of staff in the breakfast restaurant, wasn't enough. Yet they did a great job in the circumstances. Even made special, dairy free breakfast for one of our party.
The air conditioning in the rooms blew out cold air and so it was very cold in the room. The door keys needed to be recharged regularly.

Bed was very comfy and staff very helpful when I did speak to them.
What I didn’t like was the black mould that was around the tiles in the bathroom shower and again around the windows next to the bed. I noticed this when I went to pull the curtain open.

Breakfast was horrible. No eggs, no beans, no glasses, broken orange juice container. Slow/ uninterested staff.
In my room the kettle did not work, mold on bathroom and dirt around taps.
Bar downstairs was poorly stocked and staff were super slow to serve.

Sels service breakfast was pretty good - good automated coffee machines. Reasonable choice of hot food although replenishment was a little erratic. Nice views over the river. Rooms comfortable and clean - the bathroom is a little dated but not much owner can do as dictated by the design.
Great location and parking available- car park is round the back.
Slow check in as only one member of staff. But overall a good hotel in great location.

Room was dirty, the mattress worn out and lighting was poor, with some lights not working.

Great lication
I paid for Superior King Suite when I checked in I was asked to pay additional £20 for upgrade I tried telling the receptionist that I had paid for superior king suite I showed her confirmation of my email she still was adamant that I had upgraded this I felt was a total scam and really ruined my stay so much so that I checked out 8:09 in the morning and booked a room at the Swan hotel. My shower had mold I was not pleased at all and share my experience

Beautiful location. Right on the river with lovely river walks at your doorstep. Handy to centre of town.
Had a little trouble with the water temperature in the shower. Staff were not able to attend to it that day.

Location is very good and the river view is pretty. Lobby and reception are nice. Breakfast is decent
Once you leave the reception the lifts, corridors, rooms are very dated. Mildew in the bathrooms, stains in carpets, my bed was falling apart. Carpark is dark and in need of some love. Hotel is past its best in truth ok for a short stay.

Beautiful location by the river. Well situated for restaurants and shops. 17 min walk to the station- less to the bus station. Twin room was a superb size . Double room was smaller but good sized bathroom on both.
Couldn’t park when we arrived but this was down to the selfishness of other hotel users taking up two spaces. Several people did this!
