Olde worlde feel - the auberge fits perfectly with the Carouge area.
Good communication before arrival, including free public transport tickets (on buses & trams, you just get on and off - but make sure you have the ticket as the penalties are high if you're found without one during a snap inspection.)
A fantastic range of local shops, restaurants and cafés, also the twice-weekly food and drink market, but the (rather austere) dining room in the Auberge proved to be an excellent choice for our evening meal.
You can walk into the city centre or make use of the very frequent buses and trams from outside the hotel.
I do wish Booking.com would give us a "comments" section instead of this as there was nothing we didn't like, but here goes with comments:
The hilariously awful pre-booking form (local council not hotel's fault) is best ignored unless you like tapping a left arrow 12 times for every year of the age of each guest.
If you're at the front, you will hear the trams. It's not loud and quickly becomes a soothing background track.
This is not a modern hotel (thank goodness says my wife) so don't expect it to be like a Holiday Inn. More like visiting a favourite relative in their old house.

The hotel provides a good stay in a very nice area! The tram stop is right Infront of the hotel and Carouge is a very nice, safe, quiet area to stay in. Even though the building is dated (as appears in photos), the room was decent, had everything we needed, it was clean and the bathroom had warm water. We were very satisfied with our stay and I would recommend it for anyone travelling on a budget.
For anyone booking with breakfast please bear in mind it is only cold breakfast (boiled eggs, cereal, bread, butter, cheese, yogurt etc) not warm breakfast (scrambled eggs, sausages etc).

Breakfast was perfect- bread with cheese, ham. Cereals, croissants, yoghurt, juices, hot drinks. Lovely setting

We were there in AUG 25. The room was clean and so is the wash room. The room and bathroom is good. An old charm beautiful building with a lift.
If not for the construction right in front of the hotel my way of rating the hotel….
If anyone reading to know how to get to the hotel from the Geneva airport,
Use the Geneva tourist pass on transportation to get into a train towards Geneva main train station.
Walk out and look for tram no 17 or bus no 12 towards
Lancy bachet , or train towards Lancy bachet from GVA train station. Get down at Lancy bachet station.
Out of Lancy bachet station you can get bus 12 or tram 17 towards Rondeau. Infront of Ibis hotel and walk straight parallel to tram track towards the hotel.
1. We were never informed about the very noice construction happening right in front of the hotel tram line.
2. We were never communicated that tram line is no more operating in front of the hotel and information was provided of the tram service which non ops.
3.On arrival in Geneva train station we could not find the tram as mentioned, fortunately we called the hotel reception and for our luck lady spoke English and told us the issue.
3. We took the tram No 17 which stops near Ibis hotel
But a very little walk to the hotel not a big issue.
4. Breakfast is boring and it’s the same thing nevertheless appreciate it’s given free.
5. It’s not the Hotel’s fault re the construction but when you have to wake up at 07am everyday with lot of digging noices it really is bad.
