I had this gigantic luxury room which was fabulous and very relaxing. I had to come back to the hotel for two extra nights because of another accommodation falling through and this time got one of their rooms in the modern part of the hotel with a balcony and a lovely park view. I came with my dog and was made very welcome! Location is great too in the middle of a park on Essex university grounds, very peaceful!
Nothing...the staff at the reception and restaurant were all very nice!

Not that many free parking spaces and if the carpark is full you have to pay to park in the uni carpark

Lovely hotel with attentive staff. Even basic rooms are good. Very good restaurant and comprehensive breakfast.
Rooms too hot to sleep in but windows open. There are lots of fans but this seemed excessive to us in winter.

We travelled with our pet Border Collie. The hotel supplied a bed, food bowls and a small welcome pack for our pet. Much appreciated by him. The staff were friendly and helpful and the facilities were clean and modern. All in all good value. The professional staff of the Hotel train the students from the Nearby University. In fact the Hotel is in the University of Essex grounds. This is a lovely hotel with nice facilities, but not totally dog friendly.
We travelled with our pet Border Collie. While the hotel supplied beds food bowls and a small welcome pack, the dog was not allowed into the brasserie of the adjacent bar which meant that we had to eat dinner in the lounge or use room service for which there is a ÂŁ5 tray charge. There was a bar in the lounge but this was closed. This is a lovely hotel with nice facilities but the "off limit" areas were a problem for us and we would probably not return.

lovely looking place
curtains were ripped and scruffy, the mirror had smudge marks over it,the bed sheet had old dirty marks and the coffee table had what looked like old bean juice over it

Lovely manor house with fantastic staff in nicely kept grounds.we had Sunday roast there and it was absolutely delicious as was the breakfast the day after. We stayed in the Gooch suite and it was fantastic.
Fairly pricey if I am honest, you can get Manor House’s with their own gyms and spa’s for around the same price elsewhere!

Friendly staff, nice grounds, the bath was lovely and the water temp remained consistent (which can sometimes be an issue on large baths) and well decorated
Nothing really - if I was to be picky the table in our room was heavily patina’d resulting in a rusty-ish look but really did not effect our stay

We upgraded to a superior room, that was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was good with good with lots of choices. All the staff we spoke to were pleasant, polite and helpful.
Difficult to find fault.

A beautifully blended hotel of original architecture with a modern seamless extension.
Nice restaurant, bar, breakfast.
Mo/ Moushumi worked the bar area
and was very friendly, welcoming and professional. Thank you.
Wonderful views of the grounds and remarkable trees.

The hotel is served by friendly, helpful staff and the facilities are all very comfortable. Thé evenings meal was exceptional and breakfast is a balance of buffet and special request (that not in the buffet such as vegetarian or different style of cooked eggs). Very spacious rooms, large bathrooms and great artwork around the facilities. If public transport is needed there are regular buses from the campus to town and other areas.

The staff in the restaurant. Mo was exceptional with her customer service at breakfast nothing was too much trouble
The cleaner left our door opening all day after cleaning on the Sunday. No milk for hot drinks. The noisy room above us with very creaky floors.

Location , room were lovely. This was our wedding night and the room had a lovely towel swan and rose petals scattered on the bed.
Not being told that breakfast finished at 9am so missed out, if I booked privately I would of had a refund for it but as it was through booking.com we couldn't get anything.

All staff we saw were pleasant and couldn’t do enough for you. We were given a room upgrade because of a slight misunderstanding and the room was fabulous . Bathroom was large with walk in shower and beds were large and comfortable.
Nothing on this occasion we had a wonderful overnight stay when we visited our daughter/granddaughter at the University of Essex which is located on the same grounds.

The staff from reception through to the restaurant and bar were exceptional. They were very accommodating, making sure that we had warm and comfortable places to sit with our 2 dogs. For dinner, they pre-heated the outside gazebo, put out warm beds for the dogs, hot water bottles and blankets for us. The service was fantastic, ensuring that we were not forgotten. Lionel, the restaurant manager and sommelier, went out of his way to make sure we were looked after, recommended the best wine that we hadn't had before, and that we had a fantastic meal. Max in the bar was an absolute pleasure to talk too. he too went out of his way to make sure we were looked after, made excellent wine and bourbon recommendations, and that our dogs were comfortable. Our room was very spacious and comfortable, with welcome packs, soft mats and little bowls for the dogs. The grounds are absolute stunning.
There was nothing negative about our stay.

A wonderful hotel. Friendly staff, nice restaurant. The room was really lovely – very clean and well equipped.
Hotel was busier than usual because of a wedding going on which meant music late at night and a busy breakfast where they couldn’t keep up with the demand for food.

All the staff were were very welcoming and friendly. Room very comfortable, and food excellent. Delightful ambiance and surroundings. My grandson was particularly thrilled with the disc golf course.
Very close to Wivenhoe which was our main objective for the visit. (where I was born and grew up, so I knew Wivenhoe Park as a private house in the days of the Gooch family, my father was their GP)
No creme de cassis for kir!

The staff were amazing, really friendly and couldn't do enough for us. We were celebrating our 14th wedding anniversary and was given a free room upgrade.
The room was huge and beautiful.
We also has afternoon tea, the staff made it extra special with a card, hearts on the table a lovely message on a plate with 2 brownie pieces. Just spectacularly amazing.
The bed was too hard for us.

Location within Stock, plenty of on-site parking.
WiFi didn’t work at All in our Room(No:1), and was even poor in restaurant area where we had breakfast. The attached Screenshot photo shows the WiFi connection screen ….we couldn’t get beyond this screen to avtually Connect to Wi-Fi in our room. However, there was adequate 4G mobile coverage.

This was an outstanding property and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The facilities were great and all staff were exceptionally professional while still maintaining warmth and enthusiasm- we felt very well cared for. We’d especially like to commend Mo who looked after us in the Brasserie at breakfast every morning she was fabulous .
The breakfast and dinner at this restaurant was also delicious.
