Room was clean but a little on the small side

Quiet Street!

I booked to stay here for one night from Saturday to Sunday and emailed my arrival time between 4-5pm! When I arrived at approximately 4.40pm I was told by Wendy that unfortunately an emergency situation had developed and she’d had to house a family who had flood damage to their property, so my room was no longer available. She then went on to explain that she had made alternative arrangements for me to stay at another location in the town centre! It was a “budget” hotel right next door to a bar! Firstly I find it quite extraordinary that she never called me beforehand to tell me about this “arrangement” so that I could make my own decision in regards to where I stayed and not have that taken out of my hands. Obviously as I was booked to go for a meal and then onto a local concert at 7.30pm it was too late and I had no other choice but to accept the alternative arrangements. Secondly the reason why I chose Melrose House is because it is on a quiet residential street and not next to a very lively pub with noise going on until well after 12.00 midnight The arrangement she had with the other party was obviously more lucrative and I would have not felt it necessary to write this negative review had she been open and honest with me right at the start and before my arrival

Very cold bedroom

Good location, handy for metro, shops and the beach. Wendy an excellent host.

Basic facilities and a shared bath/shower room. Whilst generally tidy there were obviously a lot of things in need of replacing or repair, which was a shame as otherwise it's a nice place.

Wendy the owner could not be more helpful any issues resolved upon request. Warm swift welcome explained everything plus more as required. Shows passion in her work, easily approachable at any time, definitely makes you feel genuinely at ease.

No en suite availability, however shared toilets & shower facilities next to rooms. This is clear on booking facility.

Wendy made me feel very welcome from the minute I arrived. Property and my room was exceptionally clean. Tea/ coffee microwave and a big Samsung TV on the wall. Would definitely stay there again 😊😊

Comfortable and spacious. Large bathroom and all you could possibly need. Location between high street and seafront,ideal.

Friendly welcome from the owner, room was well equipped with everything you’d need for a couple of nights stay. Location to the beach is amazing, and lots going on. Great pubs and restaurants nearby.

Brilliant location

I really liked the location. It is a great base to explore Whitley Bay. Wendy the host was lovely. My room was bigger than I expected. Plenty of tea and coffee in the room too. Will definitely book again.

Many of the roads are permit parking only or you have to pay to park. However, at the guest house you can park in front of it.

Absolutely fantastic stay. Every single thing was spot on.

Nothing … everything was brilliant

Couldn’t fault this lovely little guest house, everything you need is provided, it’s clean and tidy and the host, Wendy goes above and beyond. Close to the beach and shops and restaurants etc. I can’t wait to return.

There wasn’t anything not to like.

Very clean, great value, good instructions from the owner

Not the fault of the owner but the street noise is bad, could well be i had an unusually poor experience given the weather was so sunny and all out drinking...but the noise was a PITA.

No breakfast included. The location was great - 2 minutes from the beach and very central.

My room was very comfortable, and included tea/coffee making facilities, and a microwave, which was great. My only request would be to have a hair dryer in the room. I didn't take one, expecting there to be one supplied. Everything else was really good.

Close to all amenities…Wendy was lovely and helped us with our bags on arrival.

Wendy was an excellent host in app respects, especially communication and being accommodating.

Didn't realise it was a shared bathroom, but no worries.

From start to finish, Wendy was amazing, she contacted me multiple times, making sure things was ok, she didn’t hassle me for payment, but I hassled her 🤣, from start to finish she was amazing, room was amazing, which is why I left her a box of chocolate’s, which apparently was her favourite ones, I will stay ther again it was really nice.

I’d like to remove my own rubbish

Good price and great location. 10 minutes away from Spanish City and 7 from the metro station.

Unfortunately my room was unavailable due to a leak due to the persistent rain.Wendy the owner got me alternative accommodation with lady across the road.No problems. Great stay.Nice quiet and peaceful. Just what I wanted. Thanks for sorting out Wendy.

Made very welcome by the host.very warm and comfortable.bed very clean and would definitely stay again

There was nothing we didn't like

The owner Wendy. When booking I informed her that I would be arriving at about 17.30. I arrived over 30 mins earlier rand the bell and Wendy spoke to me Very sorry that she was not there and returned, repeatedly apologizing for not being there even though I was early.

Location for my purpose

Would have liked an en suite bathroom but knew when I booked there wasn’t one
